How to choose the right consultant

How to choose the right consultant

If there is a personality that I hold in high esteem and look at as an inspirer of my actions, that is Mr. Fred Rogers.?

Let me put here a little context.

Fred McFeely Rogers - wildly known as Mr. Rogers - was an American television host and Presbyterian minister. He was the creator, showrunner, and host of the preschool television series "Mister Roger's Neighborhood", which ran from 1968 to 2001 on PBS.

His accomplishments in children's education are stunning, he received several awards, and in 1999 he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. But his teachings are not speaking only to the children, but to the adults as well; his teachings are continuing to be taught today, long after his death.

Why? Because these teachings are simple and essential but contain a pearl of wisdom that is latent in all of us, and that we should never forget.

This morning I was browsing some material on my desk, where a good amount of material lies - as I am finalizing the last chapters of my forthcoming book. I'll bother you not with the topic, but stay tuned.?

In the pile on my desk, there are some outlined phrases from Mr. Rogers, and in particular, this quote popped out:

When I was a boy and I would see scary things on the news, my mother would say to me "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping. - F. Rogers"

I felt urged to immediately share the quote and my understanding of it with a larger audience. Here is why.

How do you know you're making a good choice?

A question I am done often, coupled with an issue raised by many prospects, is "how do I know how to choose a consultant to help grow my business? And when I choose, how do I verify I made a good choice?"

Well, if you think about Mr. Rogers' quote, you suddenly know how.

When you see around you many scary faces, you should look for the helpers. This is true also when looking for counsel.

Pop your question, ask for what you are looking for, for what you want, and then carefully look at the reactions around you. There will be the helpers. Those who will offer real service, who will be able to promise nothing but to do a lot. Those who will actively work to help you pursue your idea.

Those are the ones you have to search and find. I'm very proud of the vocational nature of Origami, where we are all helpers.
