How to choose the lens angle of LED lamp?

By Beon / October 8, 2023

First of all, simply speaking, the lens angle refers to the size of the luminous range of the LED product after it is lit, that is, the beam angle. The reflected light on the illuminated wall is a light source with the same spot size and light intensity. If used in reflectors with different angles, the larger the beam, the smaller the central light intensity, and the larger the spot.

For example, take the 15° angle beam diagram. From the picture, we can clearly see that the light in the center of the 15° angle beam is significantly brighter than the surroundings. The part of the light in the middle is called the central light intensity, and the entire light irradiation surface is called the spot. As the beam angle increases, the intensity of the light in the middle weakens. If the angle reaches 120 degrees, the brightness of the light in the middle is almost the same as that of the surroundings, which is no different from the light effect of ordinary lamp beads. Therefore, it is not difficult to draw the conclusion: the smaller the beam angle, the greater the light intensity at the center, the smaller the spot, and the better the light effect.

The secret that determines the size of the beam angle is the lens angle. As long as a lens with a corresponding angle is added to the lamp bead, the beam angle can be locked. Common beam angles currently on the market are 8°, 15°, 25°, 45°, 60°, 90°, and 120°. According to the angle, they can be divided into: narrow-angle beam: <20°; medium beam 20°~40 °; wide beam>40°. According to BEON’s professional light distributor, if you want to achieve better light effects, narrow-angle beam LED lights are the best choice.

Today I will introduce to you some lenses used on the module. There are many types of lenses. Some of our common lens angles include: 30 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees. . .

  1. The surface of a lens with a lighting angle of 30 degrees is flat, not convex. When viewed from the opposite side, it is convex and grooved. Generally used on high pole lamps with long lighting angles.
  2. The lens has a lighting angle of 60 degrees. It has a circular design and needs to be marked on its terminals. Generally used in tunnel lights.
  3. A lens with a light angle of 90 degrees is slightly larger than a circular lens with a 60 degree angle. Generally used in floodlights.

The above three models all have small angles, and the usage scenarios all require focusing light, so the angle we choose should be smaller.

Then let’s look at the next one. This lens is an anti-vertigo lens with a grille and honeycomb particle design, which can effectively prevent direct light from damaging the eyes.

Then let’s look at the next one. This is a road polarized 3030 lens. It has an arrow pointing downward, with an angle of 70*140 degrees. 70 degrees is the direction of crossing the road, and 140 degrees is the direction of the road and the sidewalk. Part in the middle with a little light.

There is also a 5050 lens, a polarized lens of 80*150 degrees, 80 degrees is the direction of crossing the road, and 150 degrees is the direction of the road. Polarized lenses are mainly used on expressways, main roads, and secondary roads.

Before using the lens, it is best to conduct a road simulation on the actual road.

You need to know:

The height of the light poles, the distance between the light poles, and the width of the road, and then select the corresponding lens accordingly.
