How to Choose the best Safety Shoe or Boot

In order to achieve the best return on investment, carry out the following tests so that you know the shoes will be fit for purpose and last as long as possible:

  • When choosing safety shoes, the length, width and depth of the shoes are important. Always have both feet measured separately because they may not be exactly the same size.
  • Always try on both shoes to check they are comfortable and securely fitted.
  • Ensure there is enough room at the front of your safety shoes to allow for the natural movement of your toes when walking – your toes should be able to wiggle freely, otherwise blisters, aches and cramps can make walking a painfully difficult activity. The rule of thumb (or perhaps rule of toe) is that there should be around 1cm of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
  • When choosing new shoes, take time to test them out – walk, stand, sit down and move your toes around. Also try rocking on the heels a little, as this will give an example of how they feel when bending forward or reaching upward in the workplace. If they feel comfortable throughout the test, they should be good to go.
  • Remember that a perfect fit doesn’t necessarily mean high expense – we stock a wide range of safety shoes and safety boots that are very competitively priced.

Safety boots provide more support and protection than safety shoes. Safety shoes are smaller in size, and are often lighter. Check out our selection of footwear: https://www.safetycare.ie/footwear/
