How To Challenge Guilt and Take Care of You

I was thinking about you on my bike yesterday.

There I was, riding in the sun, feeling the freedom, trying to get people on Harleys to give me the biker wave... and wondering about you.

At first, I was thinking about myself, because in full transparency, I was feeling guilty. There were so many things I should have been doing... spending time with my family, housework, serving my clients, planning for graduations and weddings... and I wasn't. Thus the guilt.

And then I remembered how a few months ago, I attended a 2022 vision board workshop and learned how it was important to have goals. We were encouraged to choose 4 goals for the year and to make one of them personal.

During that workshop, it was easy to say my personal goal was to take a 100-mile bike ride. It would be harder than heck and amazing to do this! Biking is my personal paradise. It's a time that's just for me. I can ride wherever I want, listen to my own music, pray, and aim for the puddles. It's hard, it's exhilarating, and I love everything about it.

I remember digging for an image and posting about it on LinkedIn for accountability.

Biking isn't exactly a spa day, but it's very much?a form of?self-care. I know for a fact it's?good for my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health.

But there are times when riding makes me feel guilty. Do I have any right to go and do something fun when there are so many people in need?

The answer is YES.

And here's the part where you come in.

As I was breathing hard yesterday, pushing up some monster hills, I wondered what YOU were doing to take care of your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

If you were to pick a personal goal and even tie it into self-care, what would it be? Why?

And... what are you willing to do about it?

The thing is, taking care of ourselves is a very, very good thing. We need joy in our buckets so we have something to give from. Most of us have heard the expression, "you have to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others."

No oxygen, no joy... no helping anyone. Plain and simple.

There's nothing wrong with a refill.

So if you're taking care of you and guilt creeps in, I want you to challenge it.

Because guilt is the emotion that's tied to wrongdoing.

The kicker is, sometimes it creeps in and there's nothing wrong happening.

HOW TO CHALLENGE GUILT: When you feel it, the best thing you can do is ask yourself, "Am I doing anything wrong?"

If you are: Ok, change your path.

But if you're not, it's time to look that guilt in the face... and tell it where to GO.

Give it the biker wave and say goodbye.

It feels good to feel good. #feelgood. ??

Lots of love,

Robin
