How to: Be CEO of Your Own Life

How to: Be CEO of Your Own Life

Spoiler alert…you don’t have to do it alone.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about “being” a CEO. We’re seeing more CEO-days, leadership seminars, and executive coaching than ever before. That is great news for closing the wage gap, amirite ladies?

But “being” CEO is so much more than living up to a title, it is a role, a mindset, an attitude.

We all know what a CEO is supposed to do—find the work, make sure people get paid, protect the business, grow the team, build the infrastructure—but what about that mindset and attitude, now??

After all, the mindset you need working on your business is different from what you needed working in your business.?

Just like the time you moved from “Sales Associate” to “Assistant to the Regional Manager” at your first or second job ever, the role you’re leaving behind and the new one require a vastly different way of working.?

The Junior Fry Cook need only worry about meeting order demand with quality product; the Kitchen Manager must make sure the fry cook is there AND that they have all the supplies they need to meet said demand; the Chef is the one who designs said quality product; everyone’s looking to the Restaurant Owner to generate that sweet, sweet order demand.

Each, another rung on the leadership ladder; each, unique in the level of business acumen, people skills, and sales savvy one needs to thrive at work.?

Ready. Set. C-E-Grow….

If you’re a high-achiever (I see you, lady!) and if you've built a profitable business, professional practice, and/or investment portfolio, you may find yourself having moved up from your own version of “Fry Cook” into the penultimate* role, CEO of your own life, and you may be wondering how to “be” it. Like, exactly….

On one hand, you’re in the promised land, feeling free and ready to embrace yourself as the confident CEO. You've worked hard for it, put in “the hours.” You can count on your instincts; they haven’t let you down yet. You’re ready to enjoy your income, set yourself up for retirement, and stop hustling….well, so much. (Or, at least, shift your hustle to something you really want to do with your life.)?

And yet…

Now that you’ve reached this rung on your own leadership ladder, the mind / skill-sets that got you here are suddenly outdated. You’re done being MVP in your own business, the world’s hardest worker and most loyal employee.?

Dedication and relentless sweat equity got you here, but those old ‘brain drains’ don’t serve a CEO.?

So, if you know what a CEO is supposed to do, but you’re unsure about what a CEO is supposed to “be like”... or, if you just need a friendly reminder about who the hell you are, take a look in the mirror, Sis.?

* Next stop, untouchable sovereignty, but more about that later.

CEO, see thyself.?

You are not scared of money.

A CEO of her own life doesn’t suffer anxiety about bills and bank accounts; she knows that living a life of abundance is her sacred birthright. As long as she leads a life of self-belief and intention, there will always be plenty of money.

You are willing to let go of control.

We only have so much energy in a given day; how is it going to get allocated? A CEO of her own life recognizes that micromanaging her “everything” profoundly gets in the way of doing her “anything.”

You delegate.

A wise one once said, “if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” Big goals require other people. A CEO of her own life doesn’t need to pull the wagon on every aspect of her life and business, she leans in on the people she trusts to get done what needs getting done.?

You trust yourself.

A CEO of her own life doesn’t spin out second-guessing her decisions or her instinct. She knows that win or lose, she will always land on her feet. Why? Self-belief, dammit.?

You’re willing to be the boss.?

Big decisions, high-impact money moves, life-changing choices, this ‘ish ain’t for the faint of heart. Being The One That Everyone Looks To When Someone Needs To Be In Charge is a big job, but somebody has to do it; it might as well be someone who is actually great at it. A CEO of her own life steps up.

You are relaxed and confident, for real.?

A CEO of her own life is at peace. She knows that in order to be the kind of person that money and success cling to, she must be in the business of serving others—that is right in her zone of genius. The rest will fall into place; in fact, the universe divines it.

You have time freedom.

Saying yes to life’s bounty is only possible for those with the calendar freedom to enjoy it. A CEO of her own life isn’t tethered to deliverables and deadlines or the relentless treadmill of appointments; she can pick and choose where to spend her time.

Your parenting style is: PRESENT!

Whatever you’re parenting—business, kids, mentees, pets, your own parents, charitable causes—a CEO-of-her-own-life is completely present to it. Priorities and loved ones don’t have to compete with each other for attention because she lives a life of peaceful and harmonious coexistence.?

You have room to think big thoughts.

A CEO of her own life doesn’t hemorrhage bandwidth on the little stuff; she has abundant brain space to dream as big as she wants to about how to live her best life and make a positive impact on as many communities as she can.?

You do homework, not hustle.

A CEO of her own life isn't burning the midnight oil in the name of working harder; we’re working smarter over here. A CEO of her own life has figured out how to manage her time and money and keeps them both healthy, wealthy, and wise.?

You take supreme care of yourself.

A CEO of her own life honors her divine birthright by showing herself the same love she bestows on everyone around her. That means acting like she deserves it; because she does.?

You have made peace with finances.?

Life is too short for money worry, limiting beliefs, and fear-based paralysis. A CEO of her own life has faced the dragon and let go of toxic patterns and inherited habits; she vibrates in abundance like it’s her damn job…and lets someone else worry about the bean counting.?

There… doesn’t that feel better? Now you remember exactly who you are. And if you ever need extra reminding, I will be here, showing you what’s possible when you live life like you’re the CEO of it, because you are.?

Simone Craig, if this is your first newsletter, I just can't wait to see more. Excellent affirmations, intentions and goals here, that we all can live by, but especially for those of us, who are the CEO's of our lives. This gave me some measurements to look at my own behavior, and I thank you for the chance of introspection. Yes, I would love the wealth strategy session - how do I sign up?
