You might be familiar with ChatGPT, the chatbot developed by OpenAI, and launched late November 2022.
It has sent shockwaves through the creative industries in the past year, and music industry is no exception: AI, including ChatGPT, is becoming an integral part of increasingly more workflows, helping to reach the goals, save time and do more, quicker, and in many cases - better, than it would have been otherwise possible.
Below are a few ways for you to use ChatGPT in your music career I have fleshed out in a bit of a detail, in order to rack your brain and steer you the right way.
You can use it to write a business plan or grant proposal:
If you’re an artist who can access funding for your next album or tour, or you need to create detailed roadmaps for some aspect of your career, try ChatGPT. You’ll still, obviously, have to edit and personalise it. However, since starting is most often the most difficult, you can easily use ChatGPT as a way to kick-off the whole process.
You can use it to write a bio, headline, ad copy, or press release:
Need a few paragraphs for your Spotify Artist Profile, your IG or something to send over to the media? AI might not give you a perfect result on the first try, but, thanks to how ChatGPT works, you can keep adding new prompts and challenges as you go along. Similarly as with the business plan or grant proposal idea, you probably won’t get 100% finished results. As the context is refined, however, you’ll get workable text you can edit, until it becomes usable.
You can go beyond “search” when mapping out a tour:
You’re probably used to making searches like:
"100 cap clubs in [CITY]"
领英推荐
"Driving distance between [X] and [Y]"
"Contact info for the Bookings Manager at [X] biggest venues…"
With ChatGPT, you can fast-track the process for an entire tour itinerary that is customised to your own needs, along with tailored venue recommendations, contacts and more.
You can use it for content creation:
Should you have AI create your social posts and copy for you? Probably not. But you can ask ChatGPT to come up with something like "10 ideas for TikToks about music production in a bedroom studio using only one mic". Why not? A few of those concepts might inspire something!
You can use it for audience engagement:
You can ask ChatGPT “Please write 50 one-sentence replies to someone on social media who says 'I love your song'". There’s that strange feeling when you’re suddenly getting a lot of positive comments on your latest work, and, weirdly, the approval you’ve been longing for feels like a bit of a burden. Call ChatGPT to the rescue! Of the ideas it will offer you, at least some will be useful either straight-out-the-box, or with a little tweaking. Does this dehumanise your connection with fans? Perhaps, in a way. But let's be honest: you were already copy/pasting a few messages or emojis over and over, or manually typing things in several times, right? At least now you get more variety and save some time.
You can use it to help you out with writing and completing your song:
You probably already use Grammarly, Thesaurus, WordHippo, Rhymer and similar. You lift ideas from your favourite artists. You ask people for feedback. How would that differ from saying, “I’m stuck on a lyric. I need 5 examples of a six-syllable word that rhymes with sesquipedalian”? The same way you’d use a sample pack or choose a synth preset, you can borrow inspiration from AI. Don’t like the first lyric it spits out? Keep asking it for more options. Eventually one might/will feel right.

8 个月Totally agree with your take on not letting it write the copy for you. It's just too generic imo. OOH, love the idea of the replies! I have used it on lyrics, but it definitely struggle with syllables and timing. Gotta say though - got some really good suggestions! ChatGPT is really useful for proposals and emails. I used it for a lot. I have a very specific writing style, so I can't use ChatGPT raw. Instead, I write it myself and get feedback from chatGPT, which is a super move!
