How can you tell if you are Black or Negro?
Dr. Elwanda Bennett, MEDP, PMP
Challenge the present. Change the future.
I think it all depends on how people talk to you these days. I have lovely neighbors down here in Texas. I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. Since I was born, I had always felt black. Then I lost my freaking passport in Hurricane Harvey, I needed a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) and it required an original birth certificate.
To my horror, I discovered I had been Negro since birth. Me and both my parents. I declare. So these days I feel more Negro than black sometimes because of who I encounter. I will let that sit there a while and let it marinate in your spirit.
Let's talk about my favorite time of year. Black History Month (BHM) - I find out about people that I am curious to know more about then I publish an article about them. This month I kick off with three living legends and one that has gone on to glory recently.
Designated Dr. Belinda Kendall
Her 365 approach to black history has made me a life-long fan. Belinda has over 130K follower on LinkedIn but her content is outstanding, prescient, incisive and visceral. She shares these photos that speak for themselves. The commentary is within the visual in my opinion. Belinda has made me say "WOW" a few good times. Her best photo that stunned me was one of Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. playing pool while a young Samuel L Jackson looks on in the background, How dope is that? Follow Belinda to see more for yourself. This is her post on our dearly departed legend, Cheslie Kryst. This is another fine example of her commitment to excellence in connecting us to Black History daily.
