HOW CAN YOU STOP PROCRASTINATING?

My very first Sales Trainer, Oliver Flynn told me... “ The biggest nation is Procrastination” I was definitely a citizen.

Are you sick of feeling like you do things at the last minute? Do you lack the drive to get started, let alone finish things you’ve started? Do you know how to easily get yourself motivated? Do you know what it is you really want in life?

If you don’t know, then how the hell do you know what the direction is that you want to go in life? If you have not done so already perhaps you should learn to understand what is your own WIG! In case you don’t know WIG is an acronym for Wildly Important Goal. If you can focus what it is you want, what you really want, only then will you start to understand what it is your WIG, without ever doing this you are really just coasting or even worse, you’re just flying blind.

Think about what you need and you want to create a fulfilling life for you, where you can learn, grow and allow yourself to be the person whom you’ve been dreaming of being. Probably the most important thing next to your WIG is your WHY because if you truly and really understand this, then your WHY will remain your constant motivator through good and bad times.

Figure out what your WIG is. Create a plan on how to achieve it. Knowing your WHY will help you set out priority actions that will lead you to your desired results. Write down everything, things that are important for you to get done, however small or insignificant they may be. If you get overwhelmed by all the things that need to be done, chill out, walk away and do something else for a while then go again.

A friend of mine would always say... “How do you eat an elephant?” The answer is simple... “You eat it piece by piece!” (No! I do not condone any cruelty whatsoever to elephants, it’s just a metaphor for illustration)

Start with small things, put things into perspective and accomplish things/tasks without stress. As you start to achieve small things, this will give you greater enthusiasm to achieve bigger things allowing yourself to eventually achieve great things. By understanding what you really want and knowing why you really want it, you’ll be able to overcome the need for self sabotage, procrastination and become less stressed and a lot more focused.

Make this a habit every week, instead of thinking about how to stop procrastinating and someday you may smile to yourself and think, great I am no longer a citizen of the biggest nation.

STEP ONE

Write down the components of your WIG, and WHY it is important to you. (If your WHY is very personal and you don’t want to write it down, at least make sure that you know what your WHY actually is!). The more simple and less complicated your WIG, the easier to implement. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________


STEP TWO

For a moment stand back from your WIG, look at the steps you need to make to get to your WIG, write down the specific steps you need to progress and calibrate your time scale to get there. Look at your list of steps and write them down. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________


STEP THREE

Get pictures of what your WIG means to you and put them on a board that you can frequently see, this will help to keep your focus but more importantly it will get you subconscious working on what it is that you want. What we focus on is what we get. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________


STEP FOUR

Keep your dream/goal/WIG to yourself but remind yourself of it frequently, if you regularly share it, too many people will try to put you down and tell why you can’t, that’s their focus. STEP FIVE

Make a simple step by step plan that will lead to your result, and...
