A little-known book I read years ago is ‘Outwitting the Devil – The Secret to Freedom and Success’ by Napoleon Hill. The book was written all the way back in 1938. Sadly, as a result of its age many fail to believe it remains relevant in 2023. I beg to differ.
When he was still alive if you had asked my father what my Super Power was, he would likely have told you it was my self-confidence along with my unwavering optimism. He hated that about me and both remain today. Thank You Dad for providing the carrot and the stick to push me! Outwitting The Devil by Hill is most powerful when the reader invests the time and unwraps the meanings and lessons it contains.? ??
In this book, the story emerges about industrialist Andrew Carnegie interviewing the devil and how he gets him to reveal how to beat him. The devil goes into details and explains his use of fear to both control and manipulate people. This is a direct quote from the book… “I consist of negative energy and live in the minds of people who fear me.”
Much has been written about the six most prevalent fears. It’s interesting that in 85 years the list of fears hasn’t changed much. The fears the devil uses are poverty, criticism, ill health, loss of love, old age and death. The devil or the devil’s agent plants these fears in the minds of people so deeply they end up believing they are their own creation and they appear reasonable. None of these are anything of the sort. These are nothing more than distractions. Poor health happened to Steven Hawking and he rose above it. Steve Jobs died and, in the process, taught us the overwhelming value of urgency. ???
So, what’s on your list of fears? For most people the word fear means False Evidence Appearing Real. Take a minute and ask yourself if there would be enough evidence to prove your fear is well founded. Time to get to work.
