How can you help Ukraine with your skill & knowledge?

How can you help Ukraine with your skill & knowledge?

Today we're launching Hackathon4Peace - an initiative to build digital tools for Ukraine. Our goal is to end this war and make life easier for the refugees.?Our audience is you, someone who wants to create.

We aspire to solve real problems of the people - not only by developing software but by leveraging any digital tool to complete critical Missions in self-sufficient teams.?It can be about writing a proposal to a local government or business association or creating a website or a database for NGOs to cooperate. Because of this, it isn't a typical hackathon event: 2 days, 10 beers, and a non-functional demo at the end. You need to take your solution from start to finish - and have an impact on people's lives.

Categories?

Every Mission must fall into one of the 5 main Impact Categories:

  • Refugees & Social
  • Economy
  • Information campaigns
  • Military aid
  • NGO cooperation?

Each requires a special set of experts in a team to work out.

Teams?

A Team can contain 3-10 people depending on the Mission at hand. If your mission is to build a website for refugee management, then a web developer, designer, and NGO volunteer who's working with refugees are essential. If your Mission is to write a political proposal to enable a certain action (e.g., change the way social payments are allocated), then a social worker, a journalist, and a political activist are needed.?

As you see, it's pretty varied - every skill set can find a place.

Missions?

A Mission can be short & sweet and just take a few days to draft a proposal and send it out to some 10-20 decision-makers. Or it can be several weeks to go through the development, testing, and deployment of an app. Or it can be an ongoing initiative that just takes place regularly. Different Missions, different schedules.

Here are a few examples of ideas for future Missions:?

  • policy change: propose the German government pay social money to the landlords directly instead of the refugee - this increases landlord's trust and makes it easier to rent apartments.
  • company reputation showroom: businesses that 1) have supported Ukraine with donations, 2) offer simplified hiring procedures to refugees, 3) have exited / limited their presence on the Russian market so as not to finance the war - need to be rewarded. Those that didn't need to understand the reputational risks they're taking.
  • organization of NGOs: developing a Target Operating Model for local NGOs to help them design processes effectively & efficiently and enable better collaboration.
  • war analytics: creating a newsletter / video series etc that summarizes news, observations, and key statistics about war (and its consequences) - to support local policymakers & businesses in how they can act.

Of course, we're very much looking forward to your input. If you have an idea, submit it to us via this form. Especially if it 1) touches you directly, 2) you've had it based on your volunteering or other field experience, 3) you've received it as an inquiry from an NGO, local government, business owners willing to help.?

Organization

This is not really an event - it's a process. It means that we don't have an application deadline - you can join anytime. But we also don't have an end date - solutions will be built and released on a rolling basis.

You don't have to commit forever and ever, but if you join, make sure your Mission is complete before moving on to another one or jumping off.

Participation

We want to launch a broad range of Missions and therefore are looking for various profiles. Your specialty is important but we'll probably have a place for everyone.?

What's?crucially important is your ability to work independently. There will be many Missions and our orga team won't be able to manage each project individually. Your Team will be responsible for it - and free to get creative.?Sounds interesting?

Register here!

See you on the other side of victory,

Your Hackathon4Peace team.
