How can you help UK High Streets?

It is not hard to notice that our high streets in the UK are in crisis, every high street you walk down has shops boarded up, closed cafes and attractions and on a weekly basis we are losing well known retailers. Before Christmas it was Bon Marche’ and Thomas Cook and Mothercare. And this year we have already seen HMV and Game at risk.

In the first half of 2019 over 3000 shops disappeared from UK high streets.

Rises in shopping online are causing issues for retailers who have physical premises, and in turn cafes and restaurants are suffering.

These changes are massively disheartening for business owners, and with a 3.5% fall in footfall last year.

Have we just become a nation that shops on Amazon?

It isn’t just the small independent retailers that need our help even the big chains are struggling , We have had some massive stores close their doors in the last 20 years , Woolworths , Littlewoods Dixons, Comet, Principles, JJB Sports, Tie Rack , Phones4U and Blockbuster , also restaurants such as Jamie’s Italian.

Empty shops and store closures are causing high rates on unemployment, which is causing a knock on effect on peoples mental health and wellbeing.

There are many reasons to go into town, not just shopping! Remember the culture, the shopping experience! Its not just about what you can grab, Is it not so much nicer to try on clothes before you buy? Its saves time posting them back right!

Online clothing retailers such as Very and ASOS make it so easy for us to not leave the house, but where is the sense of community?

The Fashion industry is worth 32 billion pounds! And fashion saw more store closures than any other in 2018!

What can we do to help?
