How Can We Save Our Dying Coral Reefs?

How can we rescue our dying reefs??

Our coral reefs worldwide are under threat of dying due to climate change. To be more specific, it is the rise of our Oceans water temperatures, the acidification of the Oceans as they absorb vast quantities of carbon dioxide, industrial pollution with heavy metals and chemicals, run offs from farming pesticides and fertilisers, overfishing, cyanide fishing ... and the list goes on.

One way of saving our coral reefs is to grow resilient corals in a lab and plant them on the reefs. Whilst this sounds simple on paper, experts have been trying to do this for 2 decades, with various levels of results. The most common method is coral fragmentation and this approach is now being in use by many marine biologist and organisations across the globe.

The problem though is the scale that is required to do this on a global level with a significant impact.

Coral Vita, who are experts in coral husbandry, coral farming and coral reef restoration have a solid approach to the scaling problem.

Coral Vita is so innovative with their approach that they won the Earthshot Prize, which was sponsored by prince William. The BBC filmed their operations on Grand Bahama, where Coral Vita has placed their state of the art lab. This Program was hosted by Sir David Attenborough and aired last year on British television

My visit of Coral Vita, who are located on Grand Bahama was before the BBC filmed their operations for the Earthshot prize.?Coral Vita has since completed and increased the quality of methods and their yields.

If you want to find out where they stand now, I’d invite you over to their website, Instagram and Linkedin.
