How can we reinvent communities?
From the headlines of COP26 to reinventing our cities, designing our communities with respect for people and planet. Can we reinvent our cities & communities?
The UN's annual COP26 climate conference concluded Saturday, after 2 long weeks of negotiations, debates, talks and complex topics. One day was, for the first time, dedicated to the built environment. Tune in to our opening session at the Build for Life conference, where Marcus Fairs, chief editor of Dezeen will be joined in the studio in London by Cécile Brisac, Mark Watts and Chris Trott, discussing the key takeaways and learnings from COP 26.
How can homes create wellbeing for people and planet?
In a short and sweet ‘pecha kucha’ talk Kasper Reimer from EFFEKT architects, will showcase ‘VELUX Living Places’: A project demonstrating a regenerative approach for our future built environment. It encompasses an open-source development model that enables a new holistic approach to sustainable construction and aims at creating a happy and healthy way of living for the many.
How can we build communities that sustain both people and planet?
During the recent year, painted by the pandemic, we have been more intimately connected to our homes and close communities than ever. The IKEA Life at Home Report 2021 takes a close look at the effects of this by Katie McCrory, Communications Lead for IKEA Life at Home. Sinus Lynge, founder of EFFEKT architects will present examples of approaches to community-friendly housing projects. Camilla van Deurs, the city architect of Copenhagen presents the thoughts behind Copenhagen in Common.
How can we design for communities?
In this session, architect and partner Markus Pendlmayr, Einzzueins, will present how he creates architecture with heart and social responsibility: Lively places for encounters and exchanges; communal spaces that promote togetherness and diversity as well as spaces for retreat, rest and reflection.
A healthy community can continually create common spaces that improves your quality of life through interaction with others. At the same time, sharing spaces and resources can ease the built environment impact on the planet. That is why homes and cities should be designed as a part of a healthy community, where people can support both the environment and each other. With this in mind, moderator Marcus Fairs, founder and editor in chief at Dezeen, kicks off the Build for Life Conference 2021 with a recap on the COP26 headlines.
