How Can We Empower Students to Become Entrepreneurial? This Is Shiksha for the 21st Century

What the learner of the 21st century needs is the skill to learn, unlearn, and relearn constantly as the world evolves. Teachers are lifelong learners, and with their years of experience, tend to be the chosen representatives for designing curriculums. But with how dynamic the world is today, it is practically impossible to design a finite curriculum.?

Let’s take a step back and start with a basic question - what is a curriculum??

Curriculum, in essence, is a wholesome study material which includes a systematic series of topics, experiences, learnings, instructions etc., that has been designed strategically to teach us something in particular.?

Why do we need a curriculum??

Well, we can’t always start from A and hope to somehow reach Z without having a proper plan. So we need a basic plan to guide ourselves based on our time, our learning needs, our abilities, our strengths and weaknesses in order to reach the end.?

What is Udhyam Shiksha’s Curriculum??

To survive in today’s constantly changing world, we need to develop ability, grit, self awareness, independent, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration and try new things. In short, we need to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Students need to develop themselves to set goals and take actions to achieve them. Udhyam Shiksha began with this very vision to enable and nurture the next generation through entrepreneurial mindsets and 21st century skills, so that they can take control of their own destinies and create their own futures. Udhyam Shiksha’s curriculum aims to create a motivating environment for a student while catering to the learning needs of contemporary standards.?

The curriculum focuses on the following learning principles throughout the student’s learning journey - Experiential Learning, Authentic Learning, Collaborative Learning, Nurturing Learning Mindset, Autonomy and Setting Goals.

With the Udhyam Shiksha’s Curriculum, we aim to place learning back in the hands of the learners, because constant learning, unlearning, and relearning is the answer key to the questions of survival in the 21st century.?

Our main focus has been towards developing the Entrepreneurial Mindset Curriculum (EMC) for enabling students to develop the necessary mindset in the 21st Century. Our partnerships with various state governments enables us to make an impact for these students at scale and move in the direction of our vision to make Bharat entrepreneurial.

But words can’t convey the impact a real-life example can have, can they??

Let’s hear from Junaid Khan, a student of Class 12 at the Govt. Co-ed Senior Secondary School, F Block, Vikaspuri. He says, “The reason I love EMC is because the activities are so fun and interesting that I don't get bored trying them out. Even during the pandemic, digital EMC activities were helping us to distract ourselves from our daily problems. EMC classes, especially the EMC activities and mindfulness, helped my thinking power. Now I can easily focus on multiple tasks and even take up ownership for new work.??

I make warli paintings and have sold them in the past. Once, when I spoke to a customer for feedback on my paintings, I realised I need to change it according to their needs. That's when I remembered Mr. Abhiraj's statement during the Live Entrepreneur interaction, that we should tailor our services according to the demand of our customers. This solved my problem within minutes. I even sold my painting for ?500.”?

Thus, as you can see, the Shiksha Curriculum is designed to tone the mindsets and skillsets of today’s youth according to both - their needs and what the 21st century lifestyle requires of them.
