How can we create a stellar Employee Experience in global mobility?

How can we create a stellar Employee Experience in global mobility?

All the good customer service and sales books out there taught us that the customer is king.

And we also know that any business' most valued customers are actually its very own employees. The heart and soul of any business.

Naturally, having a great employee experience (EX) can make or break company morale. Global mobility is one area where EX really comes into play.

In an employee-centric market, in the middle of a global talent war, EX has already become essential. Businesses increasingly recognise people as their greatest assets and employee experience is expected to become crucial within talent management processes. Investing in skilled and mobile talent has never been a more important component of a global mobility strategy.

How can global mobility function play a significant part in the employee experience and be a differentiator?

How can global mobility deliver meaningful experiences to the most diverse and mobile workforce ever??

The crucial importance of EX in Global Mobility

Moving abroad ranks really high at the top of the most stressful events in the life of a person.

Believe it or not, it appears to be right behind the death of a loved one or divorce. From taxes, to visas and health care, the challenges of global mobility add complexity to the employee experience.

Therefore an international assignment can affect the employees and their accompanying family members greatly. Not just on a professional level, but also on the personal one, as it is a significant disruption.

Mobile employees are invaluable to any global organization nowadays. Consequently, improving the expatriate employee experience is a key goal for any business that relies on international talent.

EX in global mobility starts with selecting the right employee for the role and then providing them with an onboarding experience that sets them up for success. Moreover, aspects such as pre-departure training, understanding the new culture, housing assistance and various other global mobility support services can make a huge difference when it comes to an expat's experience.

Within global mobility cases, expat experience is no longer a nice-to-have, but an essential part of employee retention and motivation.

Transparent communication with all people involved in an international relocation, clear timelines of the processes and fast access to global mobility systems and platforms or receiving good relocation packages also help greatly.

But it's not enough.

As businesses face the most diverse and mobile workforce ever, they need to develop a suite of support actions that are highly customisable and will add value to the lives of their employees and their families.

It may be that different employees may need and want different things, but I believe there is one thing they all want: to feel listened to.

Despite all benefits, bonuses, support services and training, if employees don't feel connected, they might eventually run the risk of getting disengaged.

Providing personalized solutions for every single employee is not an easy task and the global mobility industry is amidst a transformation that must lead to more innovative, employee-centric practices.?

Moving forward

How can HR and global mobility professionals ensure their efforts are paying off and truly making a difference in the lives of their mobile employees?

What are the best ways to support a mobile and diverse workforce and ensure a great experience? At the same time being faced with a recession that is looming on the horizon (some parts of the world already experiencing it) and being pressured to always find cost-saving solutions?

I believe that if we all strive to create a rewarding experience for our employees, it will result in greater retention, productivity and engagement – ultimately leading to a successful international talent management strategy.

I don't have clear and definite answers to this.
