The challenge is bigger than ever before.
The world is changing in a fast pace and, with new technologies available, we have been able to follow different challenges, across the world at the same time. This is good and, at the same time, creates anxiety in all of us. From graduating students to seniors workers, all are asking themselves how they can be part of the solution making this a better world for all, while still being healthy and sane.
While the best way will depend on each one, some points are important to be considered:
- Purpose: Your voice matters, your journey is unique and makes a huge difference. It is very important to ensure you have time to understand what your values are, what you care about, there is no one size fits all and each solution is crucial. I like to work advancing education and gender equity, while taking care of the environment - in my local community and, with global movements. In my community I support our public schools, and our local green team. Organizations supporting global education I love to support are
Technovation
,
Missouri Botanical Garden
and
Ukrainian Women Entrepreneurs Hub
- Reflect: Learn. Always: It maybe through books, or courses. If you do not have time, twenty minutes per day may be enough. It's important to ensure you have time spared to read, evaluate new perspectives, exchange. I always have books with me (from our virtual public library or real books) making me rethink. I just read "Thanks for being late", by Tom Friedman, and now reading "The culture map", by
Erin Meyer
(thanks
Luciana Dutra
) while preparing the ESG Certificate Program with
Competent Boards
- all perfect to rethink my own actions and approach.
- Restore: Take your time to take a deep breath, to walk, run or swimming - the choice is yours, just ensure at least twenty minutes per day for it and share it with someone you love. Swimming was my choice but during the pandemic, I stopped, almost without realizing how important this was to my well-being. The decision to return happened listening to one of
Mariana Procópio
's podcast. She was inviting all to join open waters swimming competition. I accepted the challenge two years ago, together with my sister
Natalia Burian
. Since then, we never stopped. Twenty minutes per day. One hundred twenty one hours per year, which has been enabling total of 365 km per year - swimming each one of us, this week together!
You can make a difference, doesn't matter where you are. Just ensure you take care of yourself, respect your voice and never stop to learn. The rest will come. I would love to hear your thoughts!
