How Can Unconscious Mental Habits Be Draining Your Energy
Hi and a BIG welcome back to The Plastic Human, where we venture into how our whole bodies and realities respond and shape to our environments - for better, or for worse. And how to use this knowledge to optimize your passion, find purpose and live your greatest life.
I created this newsletter for the single purpose of providing the fundamentals of how and why we work. That knowledge is a step in helping ensure we can truly live that optimal life we all desire, and deserve. To do that is to be able to empower ourselves enough to make the necessary 'corrections' in our 'conditions' to get to our true and desired 'transformations'. No matter what that looks like for anybody.
I personally have spent decades building structures that supported my success, but broke down my health.
I'm not proposing to have mastered this process. To this day I still have my down moments.
One of the reasons I have been away from writing this is because I was facing one of my more darker periods.
It's not fun, but it was entirely needed. What I am proposing is that I have and continue to spend my time learning and rewiring my own inner structures. Structures that were placed well before my teenaged years. Structures that were buried inside of early childhood traumas and my later self abusive actions. It took me the latter part of 3 decades to understand how everything, every decision, every failure and every success, and every choice traced back to some fundamental patterns. Patterns that were intricately threaded into the fabric of my nervous system and thereby perception of life, myself and the people around me.
Understanding these connections doesn't fix the errors that I still make, that takes time, trial and error and consistency in making new choices. But what it does do, is arm me with the awareness to hold space for myself and peel back when I need. Be a witness for me, and find my own self Hero.
I am getting incrementally better at building new structures to help myself out of any dark place I fall into.
This knowledge, this awareness, this understanding - doesn't stop bad things from happening. It doesn't even stop how you feel about those bad things.
But what it does do, is allow you a roadmap. A roadmap to face whatever it is you need to face, and built the proper skillsets to navigate it in a way that is healthier and provides the kind of results that reflects that.
What I want for you, and for us all really, is to have access to the type of self knowledge that brings us back 'home' from any set back.
This is your bounce back strategy.
And how well you do it relies on how best you prepare for it. How best you prepare for it relies on how much you know about it.
So...to recap:
The last time we connected we went down a consciousness web that uncovered the 4 main layers that make up our conscious experience.
We learned that the most simplest definition of Consciousness is the experience or 'awareness' of having an experience.
It is broken down into 4 main layers called:
When these layers function in harmony, balance and alignment, AND, they feel safe and non-threatened, they create more energy for us and act in a way that supports our goals, dreams and highest aspirations that we have for ourselves.
Energy = Mass x The Speed of Light Squared (do i still need to quote Einstein for this one or is he buried into this equation?)
At it's most simplest, this equation only means that energy and matter are interchangeable concepts - meaning they are different but the same.
The speed of light is the subject of time that matter (mass) requires (or the pressure it requires) to change from one form to the other. From matter to pure energy.
So in theory, movement creates energy. The faster the speed, the more concentrated the energy.
Ever heard the expression, "If you want to get something done, give it to a busy person?"
Everything you do, every thought you have, and every move you make takes energy. In our lifetime we are either draining that supply of energy, or filling it (increasing it).
Because your life is energy (and energy is the output of what is required to keep your life going), we are constantly negotiating what output we need to give (how much energy we need to give) for what input we wish to have (goals, dreams, passions, results).
Your life today is the sum of these series of negotiations.
And whatever you do with your time moving forward will all be based on what you have pre-negotiated.
That's why it's so important to know where you are going. So you can direct your energy in a more focused way, thereby bringing power to whatever you want to accomplish.
Whether you want to take your energy and use it to get to the next promotion in your career, or create the finances to get your dream home, or maybe it's to be in a loving relationship that means something deeply to you, perhaps it's to have children, or maybe it's to finally take the leap and do that thing you've always wanted to do...
Whatever it is that you want out of life, it is important to know that you can have it.
But also, that it comes at a cost.
And the currency you are paying for whatever you want, has always been your energy.
It's that simple.
So now going back to why the 4 main layers matter. If any of these layers are blocked, you are cutting off your central supply of energy to work on the goal you want to work at.

Today, I’m going to walk you through the 3 types of 'energy blockers' that comes from our Unconscious Mental Habits so that you know what to look out for, and can course correct where you need to.
Again, these are the massive blockers that drains our precious energy supply and undermines our goals, dreams and highest aspirations.
They are the disempowering forces that lays within each and every one of us waiting to emerge based on our biological and environmental conditions.
The 3 Unconscious Mental Habits That Drains Our Energy:
?
1) Protection: "The Threat Detector"
When the "I am" gets involved with the "I reason", "I feel", or "I remember" (the 4 main layers as per above), it forms Protection.
In other words, if I perceive that my identity, or any other part of the layers are under threat I respond in a way to protect it. This is commonly referred to as the fight/flight or freeze mechanics of the body. This is considered unconscious because the body's responses take over and over-rides our ability to fully be conscious in the moment as the more 'aware' parts of ourselves go off line.?These are instinctual by nature and revs up our bodies internal conditions to ensure that nothing else matters but defending our perceived or real 'threat'.
In the world today there is no shortage of environmental factors that are sounding those alarm bells within. The challenge is that every time it rings, the body responds in highly predictable ways. A cocktail of neurochemical and hormonal reactions take place. All of them requiring your precious energy. If these perceived or real threats continue, your body's sensitivity to them increases. Meaning, it will be significantly easier and easier for your bells to ring and the troops to evacuate and mobilize their protective positioning inside of your body. The only way forward is through properly processing the threat and creating a feeling of 'safety' in the body. The challenge is that most people are not aware of how to move through and effectively process their more painful, triggered or 'threatening', stressful experiences. So it doesn't resolve. And the body over time needs increasingly more and more energy to support itself. This is one of the main components that create future disease within the body called stress-related diseases, which is anything from the hundreds of different types of Cancer, Auto-immune/regulatory issues and more.
2) Condition"The Self Sacrificer"
We are creatures that are hyper-prone to social and environmental conditioning. Conditioning takes place as a natural form of learning. It can also take place when the body or our psyche needs to have a need be met, and has to change it's natural way of being or operating in order to have those needs met.
We are always negotiating our beliefs, values, boundaries and more in order to have the fundamentals fulfilled. It's actually incredible what we are okay with giving up for the sake of meeting a deeper need that we may not even be fully aware we have. This is where much cognitive dissonance happens. The split in our self image comes from doing something that we don't think we are capable of doing. Or being a way that isn't 'true' to who we are, creates a highly uncomfortable feeling when we consciously realize that we have overstepped ourselves or someone else in a way that we didn't think we could. Most of us struggle with not quite understanding why, and it buries us in a pile of guilt or shame.
This is only one way that our conditioning can turn against us, stealing massive supplies of our energy and disempowering us in ways that is unhelpful to obtaining our real goals.
The only way out is to learn the origin of the need that wasn't being fulfilled, and learn how to self-fulfill for the need. It sounds counter intuitive, but the only way out is through compassion, understanding and forgiveness. I recognize that this is in sharp contrast to our punishment culture, but it's important to know that compassion, understanding and forgiveness are energy manufacturers. Punishment is an energy killer.
3) Automation: "The Behaviour Looper"
Automation are all well kept algorithms our more mechanical instincts memorize to keep us going and moving, even if our minds wander elsewhere.
A simple example is driving in a car, thinking about your last meeting, and all the things you should have said, when all of a sudden - your car pulls into your driveway. And you have no idea who was concentrating on driving. Because it certainly wasn't 'you'.
But this happens in more ways than just driving.
Sometimes we can be unconsciously instructed to venture down a specific path where you know there's more than just 'you' driving the ship.
Take bad habits for example.
You know you should stop. You know you need to make a change. You know the path you are going down will lead you to yet another dead end, or failure. But this other 'you' keeps driving. And for the life of you, you can't take the wheel back.
Many of our habits, or our patters function from the place of Automation. Unconscious Automation is stored energy that keeps the pattern of behavior in a predictable loop. It creates safety in the body largely because it's predictable. The only way out of the loop is through transformation. Our body does not love it when we try to break patterns. It spent a lot of time, with a lot of repetition getting it to work just 'right'. Even if it's just 'rightness' causes damage later on to the overall system (your body). The only way out is through new conscious awareness, a new experience that transforms or changes the thought pattern, or a new pressure that forces the change - usually this is a sickness or a rock bottom event like the loss of a job, a death, a divorce, etc.
The pain of the exterior has to be proportional or greater than the internal pressure to release the energy and create the change.
But is there a way where we can be more proactive? Can we make a change without needing rock bottom? This is something I have been researching for 4 years.
Next week, if you choose the proactive road, or want to take it for a spin, I will be showing you exactly what you need to know and do to get the things you want most. And how to fill your cup with as much energy as is needed for whatever it is to work out favourably.
