How Can Obesity Affect Your COVID-19 Coronavirus Risk?

Global Pandemic is a major concern in our daily life today and rightly so. In the absence of a cure or a vaccine, our best bet is in following the prevention protocols laid down by the government/healthcare agencies - social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands with soap frequently, and other self-hygiene measures.

Now, Obesity has been learned to be a major risk factor for those who are COVID-19 positives. Multiple studies and articles (links are given at the end of the article) have established that post-infection, the symptoms can become worse and hospitalization is needed for obese people.

It has become clearer that people who are obese are one of the groups at highest risk from the disease, regardless of their age. The CDC recently refined its risk categories for COVID-19, stating that obesity was as big a risk for COVID as having a suppressed immune system or chronic lung or kidney disease. The agency also lowered the bar for where that risk starts -- from a BMI of 40 to a BMI of 30.

We, at Reshape Nation, believe that a BMI of 28 & above is to be taken seriously & as a top priority. Obesity of a lifestyle disorder and can be taken care of by making specific lifestyle changes under expert guidance. The lockdown & work from home is a wonderful opportunity to regain health & fitness.
