How can Microsoft technology serve the public good?

I am excited to share the news that Microsoft will donate $1 billion in cloud computing resources over the next 3 years to 70,000 non-profits and NGOs worldwide. As our Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith wrote in his blog post, cloud services can unlock the secrets held by data in ways that create new insights and lead to breakthroughs, not just for science and technology, but for addressing the full range of economic and social challenges and the delivery of better human services.

In the Czech Republic, we are also committed to use our technology for the public good, which includes not only the cloud services but a whole range of Microsoft products. We want every nonprofit organization to have an access to technology and knowledge that will help it unlock its potential. This is the reason why we provide free software to nonprofit organizations and teach them how to use it effectively. Since 2011, Czech NGOs have received software worth almost 200 million CZK.

In collaboration with VIA Association we have been organizing the Day for Nonprofit Organizations, where we introduce  new technologies and their practical use. Each year the conference is attended by over 100 participants. We are happy to put Microsoft technology to work for the public good and be a part of a shared vision to improve the human condition.
