How can live music affect our mood?

Work, play, pause … life is about many things. But, above all it’s about balance, something that is even more important as we look to the summer months ahead.

Where would we be without hectic Friday mornings soothed out by afterwork drinks in the early evening sun, or a busy day in the office followed by a sun-soaked working day in the garden.

As working professionals, we all know how important it is to knuckle down and juggle our workloads, but we should also know how important it is to take time to rest and relax – particularly when this means enjoying those things we love the most.

With festival season fast approaching, many of us are no doubt already looking forward to a long overdue summer of live music and events (even if means digging out the parka and spending the majority of the event coated in mud!)

Perhaps this is down to the variety, the talent (both old and new) and above all, the way they make us feel.

Endorphins flowing high in the warmth of summer air, as beats drop while voices lift, fuelling a concoction of the senses… there is nothing quite like it!

It’s no wonder then that research undertaken by Barclaycard and Harvard University* found that live music can not only affect our mood, but it can also change our physiological balance too. The study found that more than half of participants wearing monitoring devices actually experienced goosebumps during live entertainment, many of which occurred within the first minute of a live music set.?

With its thrills and spills, it’s no wonder live music is back and on track this summer and just as popular than ever. So, whether you’re a dub-stepper or a dancing queen, it’s time to get back out there and enjoy the balance, your way.
