Lesley has tripled the size of her business. During our coaching review, Lesley told me she had made massive progress with relinquishing control to her team and what I call “letting go” in service of being able to focus on strategy, mid and long term objectives of the business.

The Challenge Of Letting Go

Before we began working together, Lesley needed to control everything, which was slowing her down. As her coach , I challenged and supported her as she allowed herself to trust her team to be the interface with her clients.

This enormous step gave her critical time to focus on strategy, business development, and more significant accounts.

Lesley learned to release her need for control, trust her team, delegate, and focus on her strengths and passion–growing her business.

The Power of Letting Go

Lesley’s journey is a testament to the power of delegation and trust. Here are a few additional insights and examples of the power of letting go.

Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, was known for his visionary leadership. However, his success was also attributed to his ability to delegate. By trusting his team, Jobs could focus on innovation and strategic vision, leading Apple to become one of the most successful companies in the world.

According to a study published in the Harvard Business Review , leaders who delegate improve their own productivity and enhance team performance and morale. Delegation empowers team members, fosters professional growth, and drives organizational success.

Letting Go Is A Mindfulness Practice

Mindfulness is a life-transforming practice that you can incorporate into every moment of your day. However, common misconceptions about mindfulness often discourage people from fully embracing it. Here are a few.

Myth: Mindfulness is sitting in silence and meditating.

Truth: Mindfulness means being fully present and engaged in what is happening around you.? Recommendation: You can practice mindfulness during or between meetings to clarify what was discussed and how best to move forward. You can practice mindfulness throughout your day, wherever you are.

Myth: Mindfulness means clearing your mind of all thoughts.

Truth: Mindfulness is about observing your thoughts without judgment and staying present in the moment. With a heightened sense of awareness, you can identify and manage negative thought patterns that are not serving you well.

Myth: Mindfulness is for people who are already calm.

Truth: There’s a misconception that you must be calm and peaceful to practice mindfulness. In fact, mindfulness is most beneficial for building a muscle so that you can better deal with stress, anxiety, and a busy mind.

So, how can you shift from holding on to letting go?

3 Easy Steps to Get Started

  1. Decide to Practice Letting Go

Identify areas in your work or life where you feel your time can be better spent elsewhere.? For example, you might delegate tasks to a team member or trust someone else to lead a project.

2. Be okay With the Discomfort.

Letting go can be uncomfortable, but it’s essential for growth. Embrace the discomfort as part of the process.

3. Measure Your Progress and Congratulate Yourself

Track your progress and celebrate your successes. Recognize the positive impact of letting go on your productivity and well-being.

What Do You Need To Let Go Of To Grow?

Consider what you need to let go of to grow and make space for something new. Is it a task, a mindset, or a habit that no longer serves you? By releasing what holds you back, you create opportunities for new growth.

Going Away

To circle back to Lesley who I am so proud of. In addition to the success she is having in growing her business she is able to now go away on vacation and take some real time off.

It starts with you!
