How can I learn Fashion online?
One of the attendees of our recent Digital Skills event followed up to ask for recommendations for learning resources for someone brand new to fashion. Here are my personal recommendations for free and paid-for online resources that I shared with her, mostly on YouTube, followed by specific resources.
You-Tube is a great place for finding content but there are lots of weeds in there too! If you are starting in Fashion from scratch and want to learn the fundamentals of design, garment construction, colour theory, etc. I would personally recommend?Zoe Hong's YouTube channel. She is for me, the best I have found so far and I have profiled her in my yet-to-be-published Makers Making Money online mag.
Other channels that I follow or have followed in the past are:
Most recently I have come across:
The UniversityOfFashion?- these are tasters of the full courses available on their?website.
For digital design, try one of the main 3D software companies. These are for designers working to make clothes that will be manufactured. Also, look at their websites for more resources and courses. You'll, of course, need the software to practise. I think CLO and Tukatech have fairly priced options for individual designers and Browzwear has a free option for selected independent designers.

Also -?Become a Digital Fashion Designer?by Unreal Engine. Make sure you have a powerful computer for a good experience as you need to load the software first.
Other design tools used in Fashion:
Adobe Creative Cloud?(Illustrator for 2D pattern design, other tools for textures, patterns, etc.)
Blender?(3D)
Online Schools with free and paid-for courses.
Domestika. Do seek out Made My Wardrobe (Lydia Higginson). I took her Bomber Jacket weekend workshop a few years ago and I am excited to see she has taken the course online there. Lydia is a through and through slow fashion advocate, designer, and teacher.
I'm also learning as I go, incentivised by my personal love and interest in Costume Design. I'm currently learning some practical garment-making working for a show that will be in one of our local theatres soon. So far, I have done 'blinging up' hand-sewing so I'm far from submitting an application costuming for Hamilton! A long way to go but tons and tons of fun!
