How can I know you better ?

Last weekend, i watched the movie ‘what women want’, the premise of which enabled the protagonist in the movie to hear the thoughts of others…. while the movie was quite frivolous and I would not recommend it, I thought how cool it would be to have the ability to read others’ thoughts….
…. and as was wondering what would be the biggest advantage having such an ability, building relationships came to my mind…
Aren’t we all social beings, wanting to get along better with others - be it at work or home ?
…. and while, I haven’t yet attained this supernatural ability, I started thinking of what can help us build better relationships… here’s what I think (or feel ?)
- Trust: an emotional response, to know that you are on ‘their side’ and can be counted on when ‘things get bad’!
- Communication: ‘non-violent communication’ to improve compassionate connection with others (check out Marshall Rosenberg’s NVC)
- Recognition: giving credit where it is due even if there’s nothing in it for you… taking the time and effort to show you care, through your words or actions.
I would love to hear from you, what has worked for you in building relationships; be it through trust, communication, recognition or anything else ?

4 年Hi Vaishali... While there are so many things one can do to build great relationships, this one has worked for me the best - 'taking genuine interest in other people and finding opportunities to add value to their lives.." If we all can follow this approach, the world would be a better place. :)

4 年I think one of the most important foundation of any relationship whether professional or personal is the " Feel Safe" factor. Do i feel safe sharing my thoughts, feelings, concerns with the person sitting opposite to me. When the person is able to give that, it lays a foundation for a life-long relationships irrespective if the opposite person is Client, Colleague, Team member or a Life partner.
