How can I get more energy??

How can I get more energy??

So here's how the conversation with my client went last week...

Client: I've been using the essential oils in the morning and one of them gives me loads of energy... I just need to know which one it is so I can use it again when I get an energy slump in the afternoon.?

Me: I'm not sure that's quite the solution here...

Later in the conversation:

Client: I've been making sure I finish work on time but I have no motivation to do anything in an evening, I just want to sit in front of the TV, and then I get really p****d off at myself. I haven't been sleeping well either.?

We went on to discuss her daily routine. Not just her work routine but her whole life.

How she was fitting in and prioritising work activities, household chores, time with her family and things she wanted to do for her own wellbeing i.e. the things that she knows restore her energy, headspace and motivation.?

Guess which came bottom of the list?

Does any of that sound like a familiar story to you?

Do you ever find yourself prioritising your self care last, and then feeling like you need some quick fix to give you the mental clarity, energy or motivation you need to keep pressing on with all you need to get done?

?

Some days do you get it all right? It all seems to flow well, you're smashing your 'to do' list and you're feeling great!

Then other days. you're constantly questioning yourself:?

Am I getting this right?

What should I do next?

I really need to do that... it's fine, I'll just multi-task!?

You get to the end of the day and you're feeling exhausted but there's still clothes to wash, the meal to cook, the house to tidy, and before you know it, you're collapsing into bed with very little time to unwind.?

You struggle to switch off and get to sleep or if you're so exhausted that you go?out like a light, you wake up feeling not quite properly refreshed...

But no time to waste thinking about that, you've got things you need to get done...

How much of this kind of story do you recognise in yourself?

That's just normal life, right?!

Unfortunately, it has become that?way for so many of us, and,?even if we are aware of the benefits of taking some time to meet our own needs, when it comes to putting it into practice, it's often the first thing that falls off our radar when life gets busy and other things are demanding our time.?

So the million dollar question... What's the solution?

Here's some of the things that came up in the conversation with my client that may be useful to consider:

  • Beating yourself up is not helpful.

If you are low in energy, or you're struggling to focus or feel motivated to do something, you aren't failing. When our mind is telling us we should be doing something, but we are struggling to actually do it, it's not a case of your body letting you down or?"I should just be better". This is important feedback from your body. Listen to it, learn to understand it and work with it so you can get the best out of your brain and body.

  • Quick-fix solutions are exactly that - a short term fix that plasters over the problem. It can, in fact, perpetuate the problem.

Instead of looking at how you can get more energy, clarity or motivation consider what is causing you to not to have it. If this is a cyclical thing (some times you'll have great energy and other times you'll feel exhausted and burnt out, even though you don't feel like there's reason to be), consider your patterns that are causing this. To make any significant changes that last longer than your caffeine hit, it's here that you start.?

  • Prioritise the things that you know your mind and body benefit from as these will make you more efficient.

Self care is more than just 'a nice thing to do'. No matter what form it takes for you, you feel so good after it because you have given your mind and body what they need to work at their optimum. As a result, they work much more effectively and efficiently and so you complete tasks with greater ease, in less time and to a higher standard.?

  • Uncover the drivers

Our beliefs and programming are what drive our behaviours. If you are stuck in unhelpful cycles, identifying what is driving the behaviour and using tools and techniques to change the belief leads to sustainable change and stops you from slipping back into the same unhelpful habits that continue to give you the same unhelpful outcomes.?

  • Put it into practice!

Ironically, my client regularly encourages other people to look after themselves, and take some time for self care, but she had lost sight of it for herself as so many demands on her time and thoughts took over. Even if you already have a great awareness of what works for you, and what you need to do, if you aren't actually practicing it, you are no better off!

If you think you would benefit from uncovering and changing the patterns and drivers that lead you into unhelpful cycles of burnout, low motivation or questioning yourself, why not book in for an introductory Breakthrough Session. For just £20, you will get to experience the power and benefits?of coaching for yourself and gain clarity on what you need to do to be able to get out of these cycles.?
