If There Were Ever a Pandemic, It Is This...
15% of the world's workforce are engaged at work and drive the world's economy. (Source: Gallup)
What's the difference between them and the other 85%?
"Engagement in meaningful and fulfilling work. They feel they are experiencing real individual growth and development." - This by the way is what Gallup has found to be the differentiator between a "good job" and a "great job".
It's valuable to look up the words "meaning" and "fulfill" as you are evaluating your work options. I was never taught to go after these things when it came to working.
The command from society at the time was "go out and contribute to society". So I did. I got a job. Any job. And learned over time via trial and error what was meaningful and fulfilling.
If there were ever a culript to point to that has had one of the biggest influences on why 85% of the workforce is not engaged in meaningful or fulfilling work it's conditioning.
Every one of us in America has been coaxed by others to go in a particular direction that would make the person doing the directing more happy and confident that we would "be alright" or survive better or further their own ideals or profit for them.
There is simply no way another person could give you such advice, especially if they don't understand or know objectively what your strengths, skills, gifts, purpose, and how that purpose will unfold for you over your life.
Millions are suffering financially, emotionally, spiritually and physically as a result of others coaxing. Some are job hopping to find the solution. Some are going back to school and adding additional degrees to solve the problem. Others think there is some thing wrong with them or that something is missing in them.
Yet 85% of the workforce is eithier: "not engaged at work - just going through the motions - or worse, they hate their jobs, managers and companies. Among many other things, they report that their jobs have no meaning, which in the new millenium translates to: 'Their lives have no meaning'" (Source: Gallup)
So then what?
Do we put all of the responsibility on companies and its leaders to create the garden of eden for everyone? No, although companies and its leaders have a tremendous work to do in currents shift we are in. I'll have a separate article on how leaders can use the Human Design System to win in the shift to the era of the individual.
My viewpoint is that it's up to each individual to practice personal responsiblity to solve this problem for themselves. If nothing else were to be done to address engagement, this alone would make a huge dent in the problem.
And here's something you should know, the world is moving to an era where it's all up to the individual. So individuals that are still programmed and following that program to be dependent on others will find themselves in a major predicament socially.
When an individual practices personal responsibility and finds out for themselves how they are uniquely made to work and make decisions that are correct for their design, they can take back their authority and design their professional lives accordingly.
This will help individuals choose for themselves what will be meaningful and fulfilling. It will also help them know how to transition when the current cycle is no longer meaningful or fulfilling.
Tens of millions have already sought out self help, coaching, and personality assessments to improve their conditions.
The homogenization that got us to this point needs to end. It's time to embrace diffrentiation and the Human Design System for Career and Business is exactly that kind of system.
It all starts with finding out out what your blueprint - your design is. Your blueprint will give you the map to live the rest of your professional as you and not someone else or what others thought you should be, do or have.
