We’ve just wrapped up Series 39 – and clocked up our five-year anniversary - of the Digital HR Leaders Podcast at Insight222. While the conversation with guests in each episode explored a myriad of different topics, the one common question for each episode was: ?How can HR leaders use analytics to uncover and address inclusivity gaps???

EP1: DAISY AUGER-DOMINGUEZ – Four Steps Towards Building a More Diverse and Inclusive Company Culture

Fundamentally, a good strategic plan (for DEI) begins with a reflection and a collection of data to understand what you are trying to solve for.

In the first episode of the series, my guest was Daisy Auger-Domínguez (she/her/ella) , who has worked as a chief people officer and senior HR executive at companies including Google, Disney, Warner Bros and Vice Media. Daisy is also a LinkedIn Top Voice, and author of the acclaimed book: ‘Inclusion Revolution: The Essential Guide to Dismantling Racial Inequity in the Workplace .’

In our conversation, Daisy and I discuss:

  • The pitfalls that companies often encounter with traditional DEI efforts and Daisy's recommendations for avoiding these common traps
  • The four-step model from "Inclusion Revolution" (Reflect, Vision, Act, Persist) and how these principles can be practically applied to instigate meaningful change
  • Strategies for HR leaders to effectively leverage analytics and data to align DEI initiatives with broader business objectives
  • The critical role of deep, genuine engagement with employee feedback to form strategies that go beyond surface-level understanding
  • Tips on how to maintain momentum and commitment to DEI in the face of resistance or slow progress, ensuring that initiatives are impactful and sustainable.

Lean on data to influence behaviour and actions—that’s the role of HR.

EP2: KATE BRAVERY AND ILYA BONIC Navigating the Future of Work: AI, Skills, and Trust in the Modern Workforce

Skills is the real currency of work, and the ability to move people to the work that needs to be done in a much more efficient way is critical to success in the future.

In the second episode of the series, my guests were Kate Bravery and Ilya Bonic from Mercer, the co-authors along with Kai Anderson of one of my favourite books of the last 12 months – ‘Work Different: 10 Truths for Winning in the People Age ’.

In our conversation, Kate, Ilya and I discuss how AI and Skills is transforming HR and the approach to talent management – and why trust and transparency lies at the heart of employee experience and organisational success.

How AI will transform the HRBP role (Source: Mercer)

In this episode, you can learn about:

  • The key concepts from "Work Different: 10 Truths for Winning in the People Age" and how they apply to today's work environment.
  • Key findings from 美世 's recently published Global Talent Trends 2024 report, focusing on human-centric productivity, trust and equity, and digital-first cultures.

EP3: DIRK JONKER – Driving Business Transformation with Advanced People Analytics

People analytics is a beautiful methodology to really show where the risks and the opportunities are related to your goals, so you really know where to focus.

In the middle episode of the series, I was delighted to speak with Dirk Jonker , aka 'Data Dirk' - Founder and CEO at Crunchr, who I’ve always regarded as one of the most knowledgeable and passionate leaders in the people analytics field.

The combination of inspiration and a simple solution increases the power of data-driven decision-making by 2.4 times.

In our conversation, Dirk and I discuss:

  • How people analytics is enabling HR to play a more active role in business transformation and strategy
  • The importance of partnering with finance to enhance cost management and demonstrate the commercial value of HR initiatives
  • The critical role of building data literacy within HR teams to leverage analytics effectively and drive informed decision-making
  • The essential role of middle managers in driving organisational change and how data can empower them to lead more effectively
  • Why HR needs to start gathering and reporting on ESG metrics to meet new regulations and drive sustainable business practices
  • The future of people analytics and how HR can become a central part of any executive committee

We have to realise that generative AI is still very much in its infancy, but it has the potential to significantly impact the work of HR and how we approach analytics and decision-making.

EP4: ARMAND SOHET - Painting the Future of HR with AI, Analytics and Curiosity

In terms of productivity, analytics has allowed us to identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements quickly. At my last company, we achieved an €80 million saving plan driven entirely by data analytics, showing the power of these tools in making informed decisions.

My guest for the penultimate episode of the series was Armand Sohet , Chief Sustainability, HR, and Communications Officer at AkzoNobel.

In our conversation, Armand and I discuss:

  • Armand’s reflections on how technology has reshaped the HR landscape over the years.
  • An in-depth look at the AI applications currently employed at AkzoNobel and the significant enhancements they have brought to HR processes.
  • Real-world examples demonstrating how a data-driven approach to HR has led to substantial cost savings and efficiency gains for the organisation.
  • Strategies for measuring the productivity impact of technology within HR teams and overcoming the generational challenges of tech adoption.
  • Projections on the future landscape of HR discussions as Gen Z continues to integrate into the workforce.
  • The intriguing question of whether we will ever fully understand AI.

The role of HR in the coming years should be to leverage technology to simplify processes, making it easier for employees to navigate the organisation and focus on impactful work. This reduces frustration and enhances productivity.
