How can HR become more business relevant?
Digital HR Leaders Podcast hosted by David Green EP6: Nick Holley

How can HR become more business relevant?

HR is not about HR. It's about the business...

We hear a lot about how HR needs to change, particularly in regard to becoming more digital and analytical and all to build organisational capability and deliver greater value. But how can HR become more business relevant?

That's the topic for Episode 1 of Series 2 of the Digital HR Leaders podcast and video series where my guest is Nick Holley, Director of Learning for the Corporate Research Forum.

You can listen by clicking the image below or by visiting the podcast website here.

I first came across Nick when I saw him speak at one of the first UNLEASH conferences in Europe (when it was then known as HR Tech Europe). Nick has extensive experience as a practitioner, consultant and researcher in HR and business. Coupled with his natural humour and pull-no-punches style, Nick is always a must-see speaker.

Nick works with numerous major global businesses, but he also has a background in senior HR roles as a partner at Arthur Andersen and a Director of Global People Development at Vodafone. This gives Nick a highly focused commercial and practical outlook on HR. As well as running his own Consulting business. He is Director of Learning for the Corporate Research Forum. One of the largest HR networks in Europe where he runs open and bespoke in-company programs helping HR business partners, HR directors and Group HR directors become less HR and more business focused.

In our podcast Nick and I discuss:

  • How HR can prepare their organisations for a more ambiguous and disruptive world
  • We talk about some of the traps that HR tends to fall into when using data
  • We look at the characteristics required to be a successful CHRO and how that is changing
  • We also look into the crystal ball and ponder what the role of HR will be in 2025

This episode is a must listen for HR professionals looking to increase their business impact and position their organisations to be disruptors.

Nick Holley , interesting and provacative interview, as usual. HR is about business and value creation for the stakehokders, with an outside in approch. Innovation should start in the periphery, not in the HQ, very true. Merry Christmas.

Interesting take on how HR can be more relevant to the business. This misses the bigger opportunity by not talking about how HR can ensure that team performance is actually aligned to, and improving the success of, a business strategy. What could be more relevant to the business?

There is a tremendous opportunity for HR, perhaps the biggest ever, but then again it wasn't the calculator industry that gave birth to computers. Is HR too mired in the trees to see the forest? https://enterpriseengagement.org/newswire/content/8633563/the-role-of-the-chief-engagement-officer/
