How can the G-20 rise to the occasion?

G-20 leaders have an opportunity to revitalize the group as they meet in Rio de Janeiro this week, two recent Foreign Policy contributors argue. Robert A. Manning, a distinguished fellow at the Stimson Center, writes, “While the BRICS countries can posture and complain, a revitalized G-20, with all major creditors at the table, might better redress financial grievances and development deficits.” He outlines an agenda for how the group that represents some 85 percent of global GDP could better enfranchise countries beyond the advanced economies.

This is the second G-20 summit in which the governing troika (India, Brazil, and South Africa) is entirely from global south states, writes Sarang Shidore of the Quincy Institute, and it is thus the moment for Washington to deepen its partnerships. But what’s in it for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump? “The slow but steady whittling away of unipolarity means that even a rightward turn in the United States cannot ignore other centers of power,” Shidore argues. “The global south states in the G-20, none of which are U.S. rivals, are excellent candidates for such engagement leading up to the 2026 summit when Washington will be the host.”—Amelia Lester, deputy editor

?? I believe that having highly #educated, #experienced, and #compassionate individuals in the administration can undoubtedly lead to positive outcomes that benefits the nation greatly. Rather than implementing sweeping policy changes that could disrupt people's lives, a proactive and compliance-driven approach to governance should be #prioritize. Thank you Foreign Policy ?? ?? ????
