How Can Entrepreneurs Get Their Logo on LinkedIn?

How Can Entrepreneurs Get Their Logo on LinkedIn?

First impressions are made in a matter of seconds and based on minimal cues. So, when communicating our brand online, paying attention to the “little things” makes sense. Because logos associated with the places we have worked and attended school are part of our credibility, the absence of a logo in our Experience, Education or Volunteer sections is perceived negatively.

In my first article in this series about causes and remedies of missing logos, I addressed logos that are missing because of misspelling. This second article will address how to get a logo to show up for you and your employees if YOU are responsible for the company (e.g., entrepreneur, owner, CEO, President, etc.).

Many of my colleagues have established their own business, and most of them are aware that it would be nice to have their logo show up on their LinkedIn profile but have no idea how to make that happen. Indeed, it would a big improvement. You see, having no logo for a company you’re responsible for makes it seem that you have a hobby rather than a business.?

If you’re looking for a way to get your company logo to show up, I have good news for you: if you have a website, an email address to your website domain, and a logo, you are eligible to set up a LinkedIn company page. By establishing a company page, you submit your logo, and that is the way your logo gets catalogued by LinkedIn so it can show up on your profile and the profile of anyone who works for or with you and your business. And, it’s free and easily accomplished.

How to create a LinkedIn company page:

To create a company page, go to the Work icon on your LinkedIn tool bar and click the last item in the dropdown menu, “Create a company page.” Follow LinkedIn's instructions, which include uploading your logo and website to your page. Or, if my instructions here seem a little sketchy to you, follow these instructions provided by LinkedIn Help.

Here’s what you need to do AFTER your company page is established:

Just because you create your company page doesn’t mean that your logo will automatically show up on your profile. To make that happen:

  1. Go to your personal profile and navigate to your Experience section to the position you created your company page for.
  2. Delete the name of your company (only).
  3. Begin to type in the name of your company again and watch for your company name and logo to appear in the dropdown menu on the left of your screen.
  4. Select your company from the dropdown menu AND…
  5. Your logo will appear on your profile.

If you have employees or board members who have listed your company on LinkedIn profiles, pass along these steps so that the logo can appear for them also.

If you follow these steps you’ll have made a significant difference in your profile by claiming an important symbol of your credibility. Savvy executives know that even small things – like logos – are important to the way others perceive them.

You make so many great points in this article, Carol. It's true: no logo *does* make the role look like a hobby. Your instructions make it easy for those who need to add a logo, to do it. Thank you!
