How can data centers better cope with aftershock sequences?
Aftershock sequences following very large earthquakes present enormous challenges to near‐real‐time generation of seismic bulletins. In this study, we look at ways of enhancing the automatic event creation algorithms and mitigating the demands on analysts. In particular, we examine the idea that the processing pipeline no longer has to be a single-run procedure. Multiple passes over the data are now possible, with the signal processing applied being modified according to the current state of seismicity.
Iterative Strategies for Aftershock Classification in Automatic Seismic Processing Pipelines is now published online in Seismological Research Letters. Please contact me if you are unable to get a copy.
