How can companies start their journey to zero carbon?

How can companies start their journey to zero carbon?

Climate change isn't going away and we are committed to being at the forefront of greener changes for our industry. Read on to see how you can address the root of the problem and implement greener solutions now...

What Greener Solutions should sites be looking to right now?

It should start with power, and solutions that can have a positive effect on the environment and deliver commercial savings, but it can’t stop there. It's crucial for businesses to take a holistic view and invest money saved on power in other greener solutions to achieve Carbon neutrality.

A holistic view would enable sites to stay within their set budgets and invest in a wider range of greener solutions which can reduce noise, improve air quality and fundamentally help us achieve the global target of slowing down and preventing climate change.

There’s a fantastic range of equipment already out there, take the Casella Guardian Site Monitor, it will allow businesses to measure and report on the impact sites are having on the surroundings.

The range of greener solutions that sites can adopt right now is ever growing and stretches far beyond greener power solutions and includes equipment such as;

  1. Electric bikes
  2. Electric plant
  3. Battery Powered Lighting Solutions
  4. Solar CCTV
  5. Solar tool charging stations.

Change doesn’t have to be dramatic, start by making just one or two swaps that will have the greatest benefit to your site.

How will the 2022 fuel tax change help drive a change in the way the construction industry adopts greener solutions?

The changes to fuel tax coming in April 2022 are a huge milestone in the race to stop climate change and achieve carbon net zero. There’s no doubt that many customers will be daunted by the changes, but it's essential to embrace the greener solutions or risk your business being left behind in innovation and development.

So, the sooner businesses embrace eco friendly greener products as an industry and start discussing the change and sharing concerns, the sooner we can collectively find solutions to overcome the challenges.

Change isn’t easy to make, but it comes back to wanting to achieve that common goal, reducing carbon emissions.

Many of our greener power solutions will reduce fuel consumption, by up to 80%, which in turn reduces fuel costs and emissions. The fuel changes will be the driving force to adopt these solutions.?

Which Greener solutions will bring about the greatest savings?

Looking at a site compound on a construction site, traditionally whilst waiting to get connected to the grid, site would deploy a generator for its power. But times and technologies have changed.

The standard now should be integrated power solutions that include a Battery Storage Unit, an Energy Management System, alternative fuels such as HVO and stage v generators, all working in harmony together to deliver the cleanest and most commercially viable solution.

By making these changes, it could reduce CO2 by up to 80%, reduce NOx and PM (Particulate Matter), improving air quality for the local community and all around. Not only that, but there would be significant fuel savings and operational improvements. Plus, compliance with the growing number of Low Emission Zones. And they’ll also help reduce noise pollution as well as provide tangible data to better understand how your site uses its power day to day.

Good article. I find that many companies try to directly replace a traditional solution with electric trying keeping the infrastructure around it the same and failing/Not getting the best from it. Often going green, means a change of attitude and infrastructure to allow the electric to solution work for the business.

Fantastic read on how #sunbeltrentalsuk can support our customers in helping to reduce their carbon footprint. Rental clearly is the front runner due to the sharing and circular economy. A switch to rental from ownership just makes sense….
