How Can Business Architecture Framework Support Organisational Strategy? by Bob Panic
The following was some learning's and experiences that I created for an "Insights Into Business Architecture - A Pragmatic Guide" Workshop I ran recently to explain why the art and science of Business Architecture needs to expand from the BIZBOK framework and models to a more company/customer centric organisational focus that is targeted to the current problems facing the organisation but also delivering on executive corporate strategy that has been set by the ELT/Board.
A Business Architecture Framework needs to be pragmatic and operational meeting the following key criteria:
- Look at the development and maturing of a unique sector/department specific, appropriate Business Architecture framework to support the vision and values – strategic plan vs. operational plan
- Leverage traditional BIZBOK and other industry thought leadership Business Architecture Framework thinking and “re-imagine” industry best practice to meet the needs of a highly complex organisation that is focused on preventative capability measures – This is achieved by a "deep-dive" Study to understand what standardised frameworks would make the most sense (and will be implemented and used!!) for the specific organisation/business.,
- Champion a dedicated Business Architecture discipline and framework as a navigation tool to help plot a course for the organisation which is more than a strategy response but supports an operational need.
- Business Architecture Framework to be very focused on the people aspect in particular the psychology of change impacts on individuals and how individuals from specific sectors might react to changes: Unions, Employers, Trades vs. Office, Small business and Single operators (not everyone is at the same level..) – Bob's Model: how to “train” a 60 year old plumber…
- Business Architecture Framework that will have a defined, workable methodology around process leadership that aims for consistence & automation (with the appropriate checks and balances), governance, regulatory compliance, audit, standard operating procedures, workflow and a 360 degree focus on business maturity modelling
- Business Architecture framework that is focused on technology and an enabler (the right hand of Business Architecture) – Wherever our customers are, what they demand, what they need right now (think dial-to-dig) and how they demand it… Business Architecture aims to link to a departmental capability
- Deliver a Business Architecture Framework that will be a combination of a consultative process with all stakeholders, a combination of prescribed worlds best practice thought leadership, practical, pragmatic (not a process just to have a process) and constantly evolving.
