How can Architects and Engineers Work Together to Create Better Designs?
In my design industry career, I have had the chance to work the variety of design from offices say big or small. It happened in to get to work with those their line of work in somehow interconnect with mine, like landscape architects and engineers. As much as I inspire what I do, but I find it extraordinarily challenging to see architects and engineers work together.
Ironically, even though I became obsessed to this why, I found out through experience that, architects dominantly focus on artistic and sensing and experiencing aspect of the project not on the functionality of it.
However, since there is the common presumption that engineers go through the same kind of training as architectures do, which is a misconception that they have the same approach toward the common project they are involved.
Engineers are trained to find the most effective solution for the project and cost effective and yet functional. They create it presentable in a linear thinking process, the process in which the projects advance step by step.
Contrary to architects that significantly are to overcome the looks and design, engineers are about how to make things actually work to proceed to the next project. They resent seeing the big chunk of the budget being allocated to the looks of the design.
But we have seen the example of how a project can be accomplished successfully when engineers and architect smoothly work together. Differences aside as they choose to participate as a team adding something to the table, a multi-disciplinary team can a create magic. Since each party’s approach the project with an open mind, certainly, a great outcome will be produced.
Of course, there is a key element existed in that realm which is nothing but the notion of communication between parties. To succeed, it is very critical to set guidelines at the very beginning of the projects that both parties to be committed to. Having regular meetings as the projects advance it is required to discuss the progression of the future steps needs to be taken.
For a more pleasing result to be achieved stemming from communication between all levels of this two party, it is very constructive that at every stage of the project, their concerns be addressed. Working as a close net synchronizing step by step, phase by phase through the project, a solid flawless path concluding to desirable work success will be assured.
For better accomplishment, it is an excellent idea to have an entire design team to have meetings with the owner. This gives the opportunity to them hear the points and issues first hand from the head of the company.
Last but not least, it is highly recommended all parties listen to one another’s point of view. Suggestions should be well taken and not insist on our own ideas even though might sound very great and promising. Working as a team should be a motto for engineers and architects that guaranty success realizing the team's objectives.
