How Calculus Informs the Presidential Race
We all know that in Calculus, the derivative of a function is how it's CHANGING from one point to the next. That's how the 24-hour news cycle works. It reports on what has CHANGED since yesterday. Unfortunately, our memories aren't perfect, so we can get caught up in the derivative of current events and lose sight of the overall function being considered.
To get the actual VALUE of a function, instead of just how it's CHANGING, one must integrate that derivative between two endpoints, such as from some original point in time (starting point "a") to the present (endpoint "b").
