What is Short Circuit Current Rating in Electrical Panels?
Short Circuit Current Rating is the maximum short circuit current on the Switchgear or assembly can safely withstand when protected by the specific over-current protective device for specified time.?
There are two options to approach calculating the available fault current at the Electrical Panels. We can calculate the maximum amount that the Power Panel will let through, as if the power generation facility was hooked directly to the line side of the panel, or we can calculate the available fault current considering the provided available fault current from the Load. The former approach which results in the maximum amount of fault current that a Electrical LT Panel will let through is referred to as an infinite busbar calculation.
Short-circuit protection and short-circuit withstand strength
Assemblies shall be capable of withstanding the thermal and dynamic stresses rated short circuit currents not exceeding the rated values.
Minimum Size of Busbar For Short Circuit Conditions
Standard states that both the main and horizontal or vertical busbars distribution shall withstand two short circuit currents for 1-3 Second, respectively, or?50kA for 3Sec (50 kA / 3 s) and 85kA for 1Sec (85kA/ 1 s)
