How Business Thrives with Feminine Energy.

How Business Thrives with Feminine Energy.

It’s an undeniable fact that commerce and the world of business, has been shaped by masculine energy—think competitiveness, assertiveness, and a focus on hierarchy, it’s neither good nor bad, that’s just where we are. But as more women step into entrepreneurial roles, there's a slowly growing recognition of the unique strengths and qualities that feminine energy brings to the table. As women we need to take ownership of these traits and rather than try to fit in, embrace these qualities as entrepreneurs, so that we also reshape and enrich the business environment.

Embracing Collaboration Over Competition

For me, one key aspect of feminine energy in business is a natural inclination towards collaboration and relationship-building. Instead of viewing other businesses solely as competitors, embracing feminine qualities encourages partnerships and alliances. For example, a female entrepreneur I know in the tech industry, collaborated with a peer to share resources and co-developed a new, mutually successful product. This shift from a competitive mindset to a collaborative one creates a supportive business ecosystem where people and profits thrive.

Empathy and Emotional Intelligence

Feminine energy naturally emphasises empathy and emotional intelligence—qualities that are invaluable in leadership and decision-making. An entrepreneur who leads with feminine energy is more attuned to the needs of both her team and customers. As a result, there’s often better customer service, higher employee satisfaction, and ultimately, increased productivity and innovation within the company.

Think about Shonda Rhimes, founder of Shondaland and creator of some of TV’s most successful shows, where as the CEO, she has 100% leveraged her emotional intelligence as female, creating a huge body of work that that tells stories about real people. She’s also created a work environment full of people that prioritises nurturing and creativity, perpetuating the continued success of the company.

Intuitive Decision-Making

Another aspect of feminine energy is intuitive decision-making. Business traditionally leans towards analytical and data-driven choices - facts, however, acknowledging intuition into the decision-making process opens up a fresh perspective. Women by nature, often rely on gut feelings and intuition to guide them, especially when facing uncertainty or complex challenges and we need to not apologise for this very valid approach. It can often lead to innovative solutions that might have been overlooked in a purely rational approach.

Balancing Work and Well-being

Feminine energy emphasises holistic well-being, including work-life balance and self-care. In a business world known for its relentless pace, female entrepreneurs need, and indeed do, champion a healthier approach to success. This might involve flexible work hours, wellness programs for employees, or initiatives that promote mental health awareness. Most women with families will put them first, which shouldn’t mean constantly having to make a choice between career and family, by prioritising well-being, businesses become more sustainable, nurturing environments for everyone involved.

Adapting Leadership Styles

Very slowly, the traditional ‘command-and-control’ leadership style is giving way to more inclusive and participatory approach. Female entrepreneurs often excel at empowering and nurturing others, fostering open communication and cultivating diverse viewpoints within their business. Women are often more willing to fail, learn and move on, creating workplaces that have increased employee engagement and more innovative thinking.

Changing the Narrative

As more women embrace entrepreneurship and inject feminine energy into an ever evolving business world, with incredibly difficult trading environments, the narrative of success is gradually changing. Success can no longer solely defined by profit margins or market dominance, but also by the positive impact on communities and the well-being of individuals.

The future has to be a place where businesses prioritise sustainability, social responsibility and ethical practices alongside financial growth. Female entrepreneurs are a natural part of this shift.

?

Embracing feminine energy in business isn't about replacing masculine traits but about integrating complementary qualities that lead to more balanced and sustainable enterprises. Women entrepreneurs have a unique opportunity to shape the future of business by harnessing their innate strengths - collaboration, empathy, intuition and holistic well-being.

By truly believing these qualities are of value in the commercial world, women can not only thrive in traditionally male-dominated industries but also pave the way for a more inclusive and compassionate business landscape. Amazingly, this doesn’t effect the bottom line, it improves it!
