How To Build Your Dream Client
A few days ago, I shared the Customer Value Journey from DigitalMarketer. I mentioned that you have to know who your clients are before you can create marketing messages that appeal to them.
Before you jump right into writing any marketing messaging for social media, blog posts, emails, or newsletters, you have to take one stylish step back first.
That’s right.
FIRST, you have to build your DREAMIEST of DREAM clients. It makes sense, right?
You have to know WHOM you are writing for before you can write your killer headline (or subject line) + big opening line.
We all have them — those clients that make you beam from ear to ear every time you see their phone number pop up on your phone screen or you realize you have an email from them sitting in your inbox.
Woo hoo!
These clients are your ideal client — your dreamiest of dream clients. I mean, really, wouldn’t it be nice to make carbon copies of these people so that ALL of your clients are as wonderful as they are?
Of course!
Today, we’re going to build your dream client so you can write content + share information that engages them, creates a need + desire for them to work with you + TOTALLY gets them to HIRE YOU or BUY FROM YOU or WORK WITH YOU.
Once you do that, you start to write + share content that attracts the type of client that you want to work with — over + over again — so it essentially is making a CARBON COPY of your dream client.

What They Like To Do
- What are their hobbies? When they are not working, what are their hobbies? What do they like to do for fun?
- How do they shop? What are their shopping habits?
- Where do they like to shop? Online or in the store? At boutiques or big box stores?
What Is Their Addiction?
What gets their motor running? What excites them? Is it their work, their lifestyle, or something else?
Put It Into Pictures
Here is where you can really have some fun. Head on over to Pinterest + create a board for your DREAM clients. Find pictures that represent exactly who your dream clients are.
(BTW: You can make this a secret board or you can make it public. It’s up to you how you want to handle it. There are, of course, benefits to keeping it a secret or making it public.)
Pick:
- The house where they live
- The clothes they wear
- How their office looks
- People that look like him/her
Once you have a full understanding of exactly who your dream clients are, it makes it much easier to write marketing messages, blog posts, email campaigns, newsletters + more that grab their attention + make them realize they need to work with you.
Do you know who your ideal client is? If so, then you are ready to create messaging that appeals to them.
If not, go through these steps to build your dream client. Build the foundation for creating messaging that appeals to your ideal client.
