How to build up a proper digital onboarding in 5 steps?

The recent events surrounding COVID-19 have changed our lives radically. Most of the companies are struggling to transform their everyday processes and rebuild them in a new virtual environment. The crisis affected every industry and organization in different ways: some sectors had to put the shutters down wholly, while others reported revenue never experienced before.

Digital transformation is something that companies already knew they had to reach some point. Although the world was already moving towards this, it is coming significantly sooner than anyone expected. In some parts of the world, it seems like the actual situation settles - at least for a while, and companies need to hire new employees.

Fluctuation is more significant than usual, and potential employees may come from a broader spectrum these days. Therefore a proper onboarding is needed more than ever, and companies have to do it remotely.

So we see how digitalization has suddenly become essential, but it offers a lot more than just being the necessary evil. Let’s consider the benefits we can gain from digitalizing organizational learning processes like the induction and see what elements are fundamental.

Here are some thoughts from each topic of the full white paper (that I can send you if you comment "INTERESTED" on this article):

1. Start with preboarding

"Better yet if you start their induction before their first actual day on the job, and do this with a well-designed preboarding process."

2. Clear the goals

"New employees need relevant information and development opportunities that help them do their job, and they need it at the right time with instant accessibility."

3. Provide valuable and helpful content

"Think about applying a less organization focused experience and a more employee-centric point of view when developing knowledge materials."

4. Increase employee experience

"Beyond the basics of transparency, clarity, and consistency, which will significantly improve not only the induction but any business process, we can find methodologies that add further advantages to a digitalized onboarding process."

5. Measure the results

"At the end of the onboarding process, both the employer and the employees have to scale the past period. With a digital platform, the goals and results are clear."
