How to Build a Strong Community in the Marketplace

Hey TMC Family!

How's everyone doing?

Today, I want to share some valuable strategies for building a strong community in the marketplace. As we all know, community plays a vital role in businesses and the marketplace in general. At every stage of life, we belong to communities, such as groups, churches, school departments, and more. These communities, including subgroups like Sunday school, ushering, videography, and others in churches, impact us emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and in various aspects of our lives. Today, I will focus on building a community specifically in the marketplace.

Belonging to a community is crucial for thriving, growth, staying updated, and honing your leadership skills. However, as believers in the marketplace, it's important to exercise caution when choosing the communities we join. Avoid communities that require harmful oaths, involve evil covenants, or promote sororities. Be mindful of forms that may lead to unknowing initiations or require you to bow down to other gods. While I won't delve into these matters further today, it's important to remain discerning and uphold your values when selecting a community.

For business owners, marketplace leaders, mentors, coaches, or thought leaders, building a community can significantly enhance your relevance and visibility in your field or niche. I have personally experienced the need to discard certain community groups in the past due to unforeseen circumstances. It made me realize the importance of setting principles and structures in place, even when I had the influence to bring people together. One night, as I was studying the scriptures, the Holy Spirit revealed to me profound insights on how to build, nurture, and maintain a community that goes beyond the ordinary. These insights were inspired by the story of Jesus Christ in John Chapter 6.

In every institution, including churches, we can observe subgroups or departments like Sunday school, ushering, videography, and more. These subgroups are essentially communities within the larger community. They provide support, foster growth, and create a sense of belonging.

Building a strong community in the marketplace requires careful selection, wisdom, and a genuine desire to impact lives beyond the ordinary. Here are some strategies I learnt from Jesus Ministry as inspired by the Holyspirit (John 6 Community Effect);

  1. Attraction: You can't assume people will join your community if they're not attracted to what you offer. Just like in John 6, where people were attracted to Jesus because they saw the miracles He performed, your community needs something that draws people in. Avoid buying followers; rather, let them be hungry to partake in what you possess, just like the crowd that followed Jesus.
  2. Don't Seek to Exploit Your Community: One common mistake is seeking opportunities to exploit the community you're building. Instead, follow Jesus' example in John 6:5-6. When He saw the crowd, He sought ways to feed them. As a business leader, continually provide your community with valuable resources, training, mentorship, and exclusive access to opportunities. Set up systems that meet their needs and empower them to make an impact.
  3. Don't Give What You Can't Afford: It's important not to go overboard for community members who may not necessarily care about your feelings but only about what they can get from you. Start with the resources you have, just as Jesus did with the five loaves of bread and two fish. Submit what you have to God, and watch as He multiplies it to bless and impact lives. Use the little resources you have at hand to grow that community, and before you know it, the impact will be evident.
  4. Introduce Premium Offers: After feeding the crowd in John 6:12-13, Jesus kept the leftovers. Similarly, it's wise to reserve some deeper resources, teachings, and revelations for those who are willing to invest in them. Once your community is well-fed, introduce premium coaching, high-ticket offerings, or exclusive content. Provide value and give people a reason to invest in their growth. This ensures sustainability and allows you to continue providing exceptional offerings to the community.
  5. Don't Stop Building: When laying foundations and establishing rules, some community members may not appreciate it. However, don't let that discourage you. As you grow, those who are truly committed will stay, while others seeking immediate benefits may leave. Focus on attracting quality members and establish a structure that allows access to your community selectively. Continually refine and improve your community, adapting to the needs of its members.

These are just a few ways to build a strong community. Each point holds valuable insights, and by implementing them, you can create a thriving and impactful community in the marketplace. I hope you find these strategies helpful.
