It has been a long time since I wanted share some of my limited knowledge here. Let me start off with one of the very basics of digital marketing - "Social Media Strategy".
To start off, I believe you need some goals to use social media for your business. A lot of us make the mistake of choosing platforms first and then decide what to do with those platforms. Primarily, we need goals for social media. Some examples of social media goals can be to - increase brand awareness, boost brand engagement, grow revenue etc.
Now, as soon as you have your goals covered, let's jump into the target audience for your brand's social media. Who are the people we want to see the content we post? Who are the people we want to engage with our posts? Who give us the most revenue? Can we attract a completely new target segment through social media?
The answers will give you a solid idea about the audience you want in your social media. Now, its time to choose the most relevant social media platforms for your brand. The key thing to keep in mind is that quality is more important than quantity. Do not jump into all the available platforms, think which platforms will suit your business. If you are looking to sell houses in the sub-urban areas as farm houses, Snapchat will definitely not be a relevant platform for you because the audience in Snapchat is too young to afford farm houses. Whereas Instagram will give you the perfect opportunity to showcase beautiful houses to a relevant audience. Facebook can be a platform which is relevant for almost any business because of the billions of users.
As soon as we choose which platforms to be in, now we need to set some targets for each social media which will lead us to the certain goal we established at the very beginning. For example, if our goal is to boost brand engagement, we will try to keep Facebook engagement rate for 90% of our posts above 0.75 for the rest of 2020. Similarly we can set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound targets for every social media we decided to be in which will help us achieve our social media goal.
Making this a very simple plan, I will not add anymore steps or information to the strategy. We can now move on to the content plan or the action plan. The key is, prepare a calendar. Chalk out what you are going to post, to which platform and when. This will be the guiding light for you to achieve all the targets and the final goal. The calendar does not need to be fancy, it can be in an excel, it just needs to tell you when are you going to post what on which platform. And from there you start achieving results for your business through social media communication. The below link can help you prepare a calendar for your business easily. Also check out the government holiday calendar where all the important events of the year are listed.
I really hope this can help a few people with digital marketing and a social media strategy for their businesses or brand. I will try and continue sharing stuff about digital marketing every week. Do reach out to me if you think I can help you out with more details.
