Huh? I am sure you are asking: “Isn’t a recession likely before the end of the year?” Perhaps it is, but the real question is, if you know it may be coming, what will you do about it??

The ability to unite and inspire yourself, goes a long way in the best of times; in the worst it is crucial. The truth is, succeeding in hard times is a mind game. Your attitude and how you respond to what’s happening will determine whether you thrive despite it all, or you fold and give up.

As I always say, life gets lifey

Meaning, life doesn't happen to you, rather, you have the ability to weather life’s storms even while you continue on the path of your own choosing. It is when we are faced with challenging circumstances or an unexpected detour, we are given an incredibly rare opportunity to view our lives from a unique perspective.?

So before going into the tactical steps to recession-proof your career, your mindset has to be in the right spot.? Because in crisis, it's conditioning that determines behavior, not strategy, tactics or training. Your mindset determines your initiative, determination, investment, and behavior.

Since mindset is going to serve you far more than any logistical tactics, we must start here.

Someone with a growth mindset views intelligence, abilities, and talents as learnable and capable of improvement through effort. On the other hand, someone with a fixed mindset views those same traits as inherently stable and unchangeable over time.

The concept of growth and fixed mindsets was coined by psychologist Carol Dweck in her 2006 book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.

According to Dweck, challenging situations can be catastrophic for those with fixed mindsets because of the implication that if they don’t already have the skills or intelligence to complete a task, there’s no chance of improvement.

Research has shown that?people with a growth mindset are more likely to achieve their goals. This isn’t some feel-good “The Secret” kind of visualization technique, but rather solid research, backed by science.

People with a?growth mindset achieve goals?they set for themselves?because they believe that they can.

They see opportunity where others see roadblocks. And it doesn’t matter what industry you’re in — from selling purses to investing in agricultural endeavors — when you learn to look for opportunity, you find it.
