It can be incredibly confusing and frustrating if you want to start getting more into weight training and building muscle.
Guides online will rattle off 10+ things you need to incorporate into your day-to-day routine “to gain lean muscle overnight.”
All these things aren’t easy. No one wants to be eating 6 small meals a day, measuring their protein intake, making sure to consume X grams of protein 15 minutes before working out, eat every three hours, eat carbs only after working out, and so on.
It is confusing and a bit intense.
Trust me, living a healthy life and gaining muscle does NOT have to be a circus show that takes over your whole life.
You can get results without having to completely alter your life.
It takes some time, confidence, and patience.
1.) Building muscle takes a bit of time.
Like most things in life.?You will not see major results overnight from lifting.?Instead, you might actually be sore and feel like your muscles are weaker.?This is just because your muscles have had their tissues slightly broken down.?Over the next few days, these tissues will regrow to be bigger and stronger than they were before.
Think about this like a tree with a branch cut off.?At first, there is just the cut, but over time, the tree grows a massive circular proctor around the area that was cut off.?This new growth over the cut branch is stronger than it was before the branch was cut off -- making it harder for another injury to occur for the tree in that area.
Think about muscles in the same way.?You have to break them down to have them become built up stronger.
2.) It takes confidence to build muscle
Starting anything new can take a bit of confidence.?It can be scary to venture into the gym if you don’t frequently go or to ask the gym attendant for help with looking at your form or spotting.?This is definitely all a bit scary at first but lean into this.?It is ALL a part of the process.
As you go to the gym more, you will begin to feel more confident and comfortable there.?As you practice lifting more, you will feel more confident and comfortable with the movement and asking for help if needed.
Most gyms are incredibly positive environments that want to help others improve and grow.?They are happy to help or answer any questions you have for them.?There is no need to be afraid to be a beginner and ask for help.
3.) Muscle growth can be slow
Like I said above, it takes time to build muscle, but it also requires patience.?With fitness, nothing is linear.?When you first start working out, you might notice a lot more and faster results than someone else that is new to going to the gym.

This is because all of our bodies are different.
Don’t give up!
It can be incredibly frustrating, but you are so close.?You are showing up and doing it.
While it is easy to get caught up in the goal, this is a process, not a destination.
Give yourself the grace and space to have fun with this process.
