This picture describes how to build a Minimum Viable Product better than a thousand words.
1. The Minimum Viable Product method involves simplifying product design to a minimum acceptable level for the purpose of further development involving customer involvement.
2. Product design is intentionally defined as a 'least case scenario' which will still sustain marketing for the first release.
3. The preliminary is released and questions are asked. How was this product utilized, and what more was needed?
4. The working concept is that half the design process is withheld to involve the consumer in finishing the complete model. Development won't end with customer feedback, but this will guide an iterative process that evolves design over time.
5. By this route, development is led from the initial general design concept to the specific refined features customized to the market needs.
