How to build long-term relationships with clients!
Nailing an audition is great, but real success in voice over comes from building strong, lasting relationships with clients.?
This week, we’ve put together five ways to turn first-time clients into long-term partnerships!
?
How to build lasting business relationships with clients
1. Be reliable??
If you say you’ll deliver by Thursday, deliver by Wednesday. Clients need to trust that you’re dependable, professional, and on time. Meeting (or better yet, exceeding) deadlines makes you their go-to talent when they need a reliable voice in a pinch. And if you foresee a delay, communicate and be transparent.?
2. Make the client’s life easier?
A smooth experience = a repeat client. If you can: ?? Provide clean, high-quality audio ?? Follow directions to the letter ?? Deliver revisions quickly
Clients will remember how easy it was to work with you—and they’ll want that experience again. Keep a client preference sheet. Did they mention they prefer MP3 files over WAV? Do they like a certain pacing? Remembering the little things makes you stand out.
3. Become more than a transaction
Show genuine interest in your client’s work by:
?? Commenting on their brand ?? Congratulating them on successful campaigns ?? Engaging with their social media posts
Clients are more likely to hire someone with whom they feel a connection rather than someone who is just another voice actor. Send a friendly check-in email after a project like I loved working with you on your project. How did it turn out?" A simple follow-up helps keeps you top of mind.
4. Brand yourself as their go-to voice?
Clients love knowing they have a reliable voice actor they can count on. Position yourself as that go-to person by staying engaged and offering value. Let them know when you’ve expanded your skill set and offer a quick turnaround for urgent projects—they’ll remember that when they’re in a pinch.
5. Give clients a reason to rebook you
Why should they choose you again? Maybe it’s a loyalty discount, bundled services (VO + audio editing), or just consistently fantastic work. Make it a no-brainer for them to come back. When you finish a project, ask: “Is there anything else I can help with?” It plants the seed for future work.
Don’t Forget:?
Building long-term client relationships is about being intentional with how you communicate, work, and follow up. And remember—clients don’t just hire great voices; they hire great collaborators. So keep showing up as the talent they can’t wait to work with again!
