How to build a life of ThanksLIVING!

How to build a life of ThanksLIVING!

Hi Momentum Makers!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Besides enjoying time with family and savoring great food, I believe this time of year is a great reminder to stay grounded in what matters most. For many, the holidays mark a season where stress and overwhelm threaten to take over. Our brains are naturally wired to focus on the negative and dwell on the constant uncertainty and change we experience. To counteract this, we must stop, shift, and reframe our mindset to focus on the positive. This posture creates an attitude of gratitude and is a key to growing and sustaining our resilience.??

But practicing gratitude goes beyond once-a-year holidays. It needs to be an intentional, daily habit. It’s a lifestyle that I affectionately call “ThanksLIVING.” This positive, grateful attitude transforms your mind by focusing on all of the wonderful joys in your life, big and small. Science shows that daily gratitude has tons of health benefits, including:?

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Lower stress levels
  • Increased good cholesterol
  • Increased mental strength
  • Higher self-esteem
  • Positive emotions
  • Stronger relationships

Ready to cultivate more gratitude in your life? Here are three of my favorite ways to practice Thanksliving each day:?

Download the Three Good Things App.?

This FREE app has been a core component of my daily gratitude practice since I discovered it years ago. Each day, the app prompts you to share three good things that happened during your day. It could be something small, like getting to work 5 minutes early. It could be something big, like finally booking your dream vacation. The goal is to help you see the world with fresh eyes and a lens of thankfulness for all the positive things happening in your life. I recommend doing this at the end of your day to help you unwind. Studies confirm that practicing gratitude before bedtime produces better sleep and helps you sleep soundly.??

Take a Gratitude Walk.

Spending time in nature offers its own set of health benefits. Step outside for a few minutes and take in your surroundings. Smell the crisp fall air, hear the wind whisper through the trees, and feel the sunshine warm your skin. Be present in the moment. Focus on your breath and appreciate all of the positive aspects of your life.?

This simple ritual keeps you grounded in gratitude and helps your brain hold onto the good that you observe with your senses. It only takes 15-20 minutes of walking to truly feel the positive effects!?

Play Gratitude Text Roulette.?

Almost every day since the start of the pandemic, I scroll through my contacts and randomly select the names of three folks to text. Often, it’s a mix of family members and friends, colleagues and clients. I send each person an individualized message and share a reason why I’m grateful for them. This daily practice has a beautiful way of increasing my gratitude for the person I connect with, and I know it makes a difference in their life.?

Try one of these prompts when you text someone:?

  • I am grateful for you…
  • I appreciate you…
  • I’m thinking of you…?

Thanksliving isn’t a season—it’s a lifestyle! When you stop to acknowledge the positivity and goodness in your life, you show up as your best self. You conquer change, challenges, and uncertainty in a beautiful, healthy, and productive way. You show up stronger and more resilient than ever.

Find the good and practice gratitude. You’ll be amazed by how it transforms your life—and the lives of those around you.?

Big Love!

Here’s to Thanksliving,

Kim?

I have believed in Thanksliving for years!! We just have to set an intention to take gratitude moments, even if we have to change our perspective.

Kim Becking, J.D. thank you so much for the reminder. I agree wholeheartedly! Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools in our toolbox and so often neglected. I have an entire chapter dedicated to gratitude in my book Claim Your SWAGGER. Love the message and tips for creating some daily gratitude practices. ?? Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday too!
