If culture is how most people feel, believe and behave most of the time, then building a healthy one requires healthy feelings, beliefs, and behaviors. So where do you begin?
As with building anything, we have to start with a concept of what our healthy dream state would look like. So how would you describe your dream culture?
My healthy culture would include the following:_____________________________ ____________________________________________________________________
Once you have an idea of what kind of culture you want to build, you must look at the resources available to you right now. In terms of your time (time), talent (people), treasure (money), and testimony (storytelling), what resources do you have now that can be used to build your healthy culture?
Time:_____________________________________________________________________
Talent:____________________________________________________________________
Treasure:__________________________________________________________________
Testimony:_________________________________________________________________
As you begin to build the culture you would feel proud to lead, that sense of pride must be shared by all stakeholders. What 3 feelings about your culture will give permission to your employees, customers, and community to have a sense of pride, care authentically, be inspired, and stay engaged?
Feeling 1:__________________________________________________________________
Feeling 2:__________________________________________________________________
Feeling 3:__________________________________________________________________
Once you and your stakeholders have an aligned sense of engagement with your culture, those feelings will result in beliefs that should support your mission, vision, and values. As you consider your mission, vision, and values, what 3 healthy beliefs do you have about your culture that you hope your stakeholders will share?
Belief 1: __________________________________________________________________
Belief 2:___________________________________________________________________
Belief 3: __________________________________________________________________
Ultimately, feelings and beliefs that your stakeholders carry about your culture will influence their behaviors. Behavior, after all, is feeling and belief in action. In looking back over your previous 4 answers, what 3 actions will you take this week to begin building your dream culture with the resources you have and the feelings, beliefs, and behaviors you want to inspire throughout your organization?
Action 1: __________________________________________________________________
Action 2:__________________________________________________________________
Action 3: __________________________________________________________________
