HOW TO BUILD AN EMAIL LIST THE RIGHT WAY

HOW TO BUILD AN EMAIL LIST THE RIGHT WAY

Last month, I wrote about blogging versus email versus social media when it comes to marketing.

I was asked a lot of questions about how to build an email list to make the most of email marketing.

If you feel like you are late to the build-an-email-list party, don’t feel bad. I was too.

When I started my business in 2009, I had no idea how important it was to immediately start building an email list for marketing.

Social media was all the rage! It was going to kill email just like email had killed print!?

(Ah – marketing prognostications gone very wrong. Print is still alive and social media marketing is overrated with a low ROI.)?

Anyway, about my list. It isn’t huge, but the people on it are engaged – and that’s what matters.

One of the easiest ways to build your email list is to add all prospects and new clients.??

Email is all about the opt-in. Prospects and new clients opt-in to hear from you, and this extends to email marketing. They all get added to my email list and receive my monthly newsletter.??

When I am at a networking event, I talk to numerous prospects, some of whom are brand new business owners. They are not my ideal client, because they are not yet established with steady cash flow.???

But when/if they grow, they will need me one day. I always ask them if they’d like to be on my email list.?

This way, they can get to know me and learn more about content marketing. The day they are ready to buy, I’ll be top of mind.

You should add vendors and partners, too.??

Some vendors and partners you may work with often, some only once in a blue moon. Add all of them to your list as well to ensure you also stay top of mind with them.?

This is especially important if they are “connectors.” You want to be the person they think of first when someone needs your service.
