How To Build an Audience on Social Media (And Turn it into Business?)
The common thread between all of the challenges women presented at Mastermind Dinner in Boston is audience development. It showed up in different questions: How do I get recurring clients? How do I find new clients? Where do I find my clients?
We hosted an interview with Amanda Natividad, VP of Marketing at SparkToro last week. She built her audience from 1 to 60,000 on Twitter. When she started out, she had one intention: She never wanted to do a traditional job hunt again. So she created her own virtual water cooler:
"I wasn't really equipped to be in a position of power to just choose my next job. I wanted to create some personal leverage and create more opportunity for myself. More than uploading my resume into a job portal and crossing my fingers. So I became a lot more purposeful with what I was posting on Twitter. I really came to think of Twitter or posting there as my water cooler at work.
This is where I could talk to other marketers about marketing work, corporate life, things related to work. I was able to really bring my whole person self to that space. I still tweet mainly about marketing, but I also share funny anecdotes from being a mom, having a kid.
So, the key thing is this: When you're building a personal brand or building a following, it isn't about just only tweeting about your expertise. What you would talk about comfortably at work during lunch with your coworkers too? " See the complete interview below
One of the other issues that comes up in all of my Masterminds through out the week with women leaders is time management. How to organize the week, so we focus on the right things. Not just busy work.
Mom, author, and owner of the successful FIT4MOM business Lisa Druxman starts with her VALUES.
"I start with my values. Then I create the vision. Then I create the strategy. Then I put it in a schedule. Remember, I started the business so I could be a mom first. I didn't expect to start a nationwide business. When it took off, I was in total overwhelm. I was not living in alignment with my values. My values are my kids, my family, my health, I wasn't taking care of any of that. In order to figure out what's most important to you, it really comes back to getting into alignment with your true values.
So ask yourself, "What are your five top values? Pick one. Tattoo it on your wrist. Pick one, and that becomes your compass. What would that value would be?
My name is Joya Dass. I made my living as a television news anchor for 20 years. I covered the financial markets from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. It was what I wanted to do since I was 4 years old.
I forged that career on my own and had to build the network to get to New York. Nobody teaches this stuff in school. My leadership platform today was born out of that personal pain point. You have a goal. You're at a critical inflection point and need the group and accountability to achieve it.
