How to build an ABA website.
As behavior analysts, a web presence is critical if we are to grow our companies and disseminate the science to the larger world. That’s what Skinner’s vision was all about.
Luckily, in 2018, its easier than ever to get started, and you don’t have to shell out your life savings either. In my own company, at bSci21.org, my team and I have operated within the WordPress environment literally every day for several years. In the process, I’ve learned some things, and have a few tips for behavior analysts wishing to get a website via WordPress.
First, your website needs a place to live. This means purchasing a hosting plan! There are lots of hosting companies out there but my company uses GoDaddy Managed WordPress, with a few different plans to explore. Pick the one that works best for you.
Secondly, your website needs a basic structure. This is where "themes" come into play and I recommend purchasing a commercially-supported theme, which provides greater flexibility for customization and customer support.
Third, your website needs functionality. Enter “plugins” – the feature of self-hosted WordPress from which its power derives. The enormous database of over 50,000 plugins is searchable to the public here, and you will have a similar interface through the back end of your site.
We go into much more detail on all of this in our new article on bSci21.org. Be sure to check it out and contact us with any questions or if you need help setting up your own site!

7 年Nice! A clean website is critical, and there is so much out there these days with themes and plugins, you can have something beautiful and functional without breaking the bank. Gone are the days of having to know how to hand code everything or pay for it to be done! Don't reinvent the wheel... there are super-talented people who have put a lot of work into making that easy so we can get to and focus on the good stuff! Thanks for sharing your insight Todd!
