How to Budget a Translation?

Hey you, yes, you customer, I am talking to you! Do you know how your translator creates his quotation? Here is the standard procedure that some translators use.

1. Request for document or media to be translated.
2. Ask customer what kind of translation is needed (i.e. revision, correction, translation).
3. Examine document and create a sample (how long does it take to revise or translate) or use Word to count every word and apply a fixed rate.
4. Use the sample and apply to the number of pages or length of the media.

Some translators offer an hourly fee and some others offer a fixed rate. It all depends.

If the translator throws you a fee without even taking a look at what you need RUN as fast as you can!
